Easton S15 with Razor Bladz II vs Tuuk Lightspeed 2

Recommended Posts

All,

I have a pair of S15 skates. They feel great, but someone told me that I could do better with the TUUK Lightspeed Holder & Perforated Runner. Does anyone know the difference in weight and what are the advantages and disadvantages from the two? I've never skated with a Tuuk system. I've always been a CCM follower until this pair of skate.

Thanks,

Icemans

I have 1500c's w/ Tuuks and LOVE them. The main reason why most people, myself included, do the swap is because the Tuuks willl allow you to have a higher lean angle when turning and they are a neutral lie, where as the stock Razorbladez setup tilts you forwards.

The weight savings is negligible between the two.

If you're not having any problems, stick with what you have.

I agree. I had them mounted on my Synergy 1100s. Didn't make a big difference other than looks.

it wouldn't be difficult at all. the holes line up beautifully

Custom + fits w/o a hitch but not Lightspeed. You have to widen holes to accommodate LS2.

im having custom + holders put on some old synergy boots right now cuz i noticed i was lacking feel for the ice with the razor blades and stopped using them a while back. its more of a test run for me so i know buying s15's will be worth it if the easton/tuuk combo eliminates my problem.

an additional question, considering the better compatability of custom+, is there any major differences between custom+ and lightspeed as far as measurements ( height , lie , etc)? or is it just a newer look and perhaps a bit lighter?? or should i go thru more trouble to get lightspeeds on eastons?

and iceman , def stick with what you have if you're liking them , especailly since u usually wear ccm... my trouble with wanting tuuks is that i grew up on bauer and have almost always used tuuks

Is this something that's relatively difficult to do? I'm pretty sure my LHS isn't accustomed to putting tuuks (I'd be looking at lightspeeds) on non-bauer skates, and obviously they (and I) aren't going to try something hard on $500 skates.

And final question from me, and sorry if it's been answered elsewhere, I searched but couldn't find anything, what's the sizing difference between bauer and easton? I wear a 6.5D in 8090s and I need a new pair of skates, all the LHS has in stock are 7R eastons...? Thanks.

Lightspeed has a neutral pitch, where Custom+ is back on the heels a bit. Lightspeed is also stiffer than Custom+. The steel is longer on the Lightspeeds as well.

If you've used C+ all your life and they worked for you, stick with it. The LS will actually feel a bit more like the easton holder b/c of the pitch.

Just note that widening the holes to accommodate the LS2 will void the warranty on the boots.

You are thinking of LS2 Power, not LS2. The LS2 has the same blade length and stiffness of the Tuuk+.

no, I'm not thinking of the ls2P. the ls2p has longer steel than, and is stiffer than the LS2. the original LS ans LS2 are both longer and stiffer than custom+.

Some of the reasons for Bauer developing the Lightspeed in the first place:

a: longer steel. many players would go up a holder size on their skates for a longer blade. with LS, this is not necessary.

b: neutral pitch- to take sales from ccm users (neutral pitch)

c: stiffness was also increased. while I don't believe it was so much of a key in the development, it was a factor taken into consideration (very strong skaters can feel customs flexing on hard cuts.)

the LS2P further builds on these characteristics, sharing the neutral pitch (feels like it's back on the heels on a ONE90 b/c of the exceptional heel locking of the boot.)

Show me where LS and LS2 are longer than Custom Plus. A size 7 D NBH boot will have a Tuuk Custom Plus 263 or a Tuuk LS2 263. LS2P is longer on the runner in 263. Where is LS and LS2 longer than Custom Plus?

It's not. All of his tuuk related posts are based upon second-hand knowledge from the board, not actual experience with the hardware.

admittedly, yes. most of my knowledge of equipment is secondhand, not just of tuuks/holders.

So maybe it would be a good idea to leave the advice for the people working with Tuuk holders and runners each and every day.

Are there any signs or symptoms that say i should switch, like falling forward a little when you transition. Or is that because my blade is half as big as it was when i bought it? I just bought the s15's too and was wondering what the posotives are to switching to the lightspeed. And i might be switching to the custom+, what is the difference? There is one forum about it but i dont know what to believe becasue i guess that one of the posters was useing second hand knowledge.

If that were the case, nobody but shop workers would post on here.

and from my experience a lot of shop owners are more in the dark than the average active-posting member on MSH.

I bought the S-15's a week ago, wore them twice and didn't like the forward lean and I'm coming from the Synergy skate. I looked at the S-15 ad and it says they come with a heel lift. So I took out the foot bed, which is a cheap piece of foam, and there was a hard plastic heel lift back there. Exchanged the foot pads for the Shock Doctor's I had in my Synergy's and now I can say the skates are great. That little piece of plastic put me on my toes a little too much for my liking. I also tried lacing up the top eyelet and it was incredibly painful. I would stick with JR's reccomendation of not lacing that top 1 up.
