TPS sticks

Recommended Posts

I just got an XN10 from my LHS, so far so good! I cant believe how light they are, 355 grams for an intermediate. I wont have much time to play for a while but i'll get back to you guys in a few weeks on how it holds up.

This is more based on the rediculous method of labelling the newer TPS sticks, but correct me if i'm wrong. Throughout this forum when people are talking about how good the R2 is, are they refferring to an older model of stick? Or are they talking about the new low end model from TPS.

On that note, how do the new models rank as a scale. Are the R2's cheap because they are very much a price point stick? And is the R8 really the only one worth picking up if looking for a decent high performance stick? ie. is there a huge difference between models?

The R2 being referred to is the tapered shaft model, not the low end stick.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the new TPS models start at R2, R4, etc...and get progressively better as you climb up the ladder.

It's easy to see how confusing it can be due to the rebranding of new lower grade models with the old high performance designations (i.e. response plus, R2 etc..)

OK cool. So has anyone tried the NEW response armour OPS (R6 model)? Is it worth picking up or would it be a better choice to seak out a R8 pro return?

One thing that nobody had commented on about TPS sticks. Those suckers are ugly. Especially the earlier XN10 models.

I have an R2 XN10 shaft that I love the performance of, but the printing is shifted about a 1/2 inch to one side and the colors are mismatched. It is one ugly stick. Looks sell in the store...

Spray paint that baby flat black. Its like the paper bag for women, but for hockey sticks

Zach

AH YES.....the fine art of "the brown bag special"

I prefer the original XN10 OPS graphics, the ones without the splash of blue. I wasn't a fan of the yellow sticks but with the number I've used over the years, I've gotten used to it. That said, TPS has had some of the worst quality control on their graphics that I've seen.

I haven't tried the R6 but I do have a pro return R8. It took a puck directly off the toe and cracked it. Took it to stick fix and it has been great ever since. It is the best stick I have ever used.

Where did u pick this up from? I'd have to get it online. Are the 'pro stock' r8's on EWH ACTUAL pro stocks, or just tps pros stocks.

Anything with a PXX pattern is pro stock. TPS labels everything that has the R8 name as pro stock, no matter what it is. Performance on the R8 shaft isn't as good as the older stuff though.

Chadd, how does the R8 stack up to the other tapered shafts that you have used? Is it well balanced?

Roughly equal to the original R2 tapered shaft but not as good as the R2XN10. I was really unimpressed with the Synthesis that I had and the L2 was solid but unspectacular.

So, R2Xn10>R8/R2>L2>Synthesis? It's hard to fathom how 2 years after Xn10, TPS hasn't been able to surpass, or even replicate what they achieved with the original Response Xn10 lineup. There's always next year, I guess...

I really wish I picked up that R2Xn10 at the pure hockey sale last year

Cheaper materials means more profit.

I"ve come to the conclusion that I'll just have to buy some pro stock XN10's and wait for the blade to break to create a shaft. Now watch me start snapping shafts.... :(

I've heard from a couple of people that they broke the shaft on their XN10's during games long before the blades went.

I know a couple guys who had the same problem. The XN10 shafts do not handle constant hacking and slashing very well.

I've had good luck so far (don't take many slappers just wristers and snapshots and the shaft has lasted about 2 seasons). I've also moved to a less chippy league hopefully that will lessen the hacks, etc..

When I play D I'll just use my redlite instead.
