How much would you be willing to pay...

Recommended Posts

Need some feedback -

If you had the opportunity to rent out an NHL arena as part of a group (say 30 skaters) with scoreboard and scorekeeper, how much would you (one skater) be willing to pay to participate?

Considering that it costs $10 to play pick-up at the local prep school, I'd say around $15-20 dollars. It depends how long we have the ice for, though, and how nice the ice is. I'd only pay $10 to play at the DCU Center (home of the Sharks' AHL affiliate) since the ice there is horrible.

EDIT2: For an MSH skate, and new gear is in the question I'd bump it up to anywhere between 45 and 60 dollars.

When we play at Copps we get the visitors dressing rooms (unless they are still in town) and pay $20-25 per guy for an hour and a half.

So...figure better rooms, better ice...better overall experience.

Say, $40-50.

I don't know if they do it at the Joe, but my beer league was able to set up a game at Nassau Mausoleum for us last year. There was a combined ticket sales minimum to be met by both teams (basically the players each bought a ticket or two to the islanders game) and we skated on the ice directly after the game that we attended. One thing to note is that we had to get dressed in a hallway in the basement, as opposed to doing so in the locker rooms.

Seeing as Detroit doesn't have trouble selling tickets, this may not be an option, but may be worth looking into.

For an event like the MSH skate, I'd be willing to drop $60 on it if we get to use the locker rooms (maybe get a tour of the arena? don't know if they do that at the Joe). Out of curiosity, what's the rate at Novi or another rink in the area?

If I could make it, I would be more than happy to drop $50. Theres no such thing as a good hockey rink around here so just the opportunity to skate on good ice would be enough to push me over. Count my wife in too for another $50.

how many people are we shooting for? if we get 30 people, its gonna be $60 a piece. 30 skaters and $60 each doesnt sound too ridiculous to me. count me in if this is happening

$60 isn't bad, but there's no way I'm going to make it to any MSH skates unless they're within 2 hours of my house (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire).

Not to piss in anyone's Cheerios here, but dealing with JLA is a pain in the ass. Access isn't too bad off the Lodge freeway (M-10) as long as construction is done, and the parking lot is across the street amd is secure. When the Little Caesars league holds their championships there, the arena staff makes you stay in a hallway until like 20 minutes before your scheduled icetime... hurry you down to the locker rooms (which are hotter than hell) and make you stay in there until you hit the ice. The ice is incredibly smooth, but it's very soft. Most of metro Detroit's rinks have faster ice. The rink is hot, too...

For guys who have never skated there, and especially never even been there, it would be a great experience, especially if a tour of the Wings' facilities is available. I've skated there twice, once in Peewee and once a couple years ago in my beer-league allstar game (2G, 1A!) and it's a cool experience. But for my $50, I'd rather spend $15 on the hockey and the other $35 on my bar tab.

Bouce, if you want a GREAT old barn to skate in, try State Fair. Great ice, awesome building, and by December the cowshit smell should be gone!

This would be for the MSH MI skate - not just some random drop-in.

Help me out by scheduling this thing between sometime when school isn't an issue (from about mid-December until late January), and you could probably count me in for about $80 or so.

That time of year is really bad for "adults"
