Hockey gear/car arranements

Recommended Posts

I've always wondered about the different methods some of us use to move our gear about. When Im going from home to a game I generally chuck my gear bag in the boot/trunk and my stick bag accross the back seat. I've done some pretty crazy variations of this over the years due to extra people in the car or a diff type of car altogether.

How does everyone else do it? What kind of arrangement works best for say a hatch-back versus a wagon? How many people's gear are you usually carrying?

I have an SUV now and am lucky to be able to just throw the entire hockey bag in the trunk. The stick goes into the trunk and ends up in the back seat.

When I was driving a car, I would toss the hockey bag into the trunk then put the stick across the back seat. If a team-mate would ride with me, then i'd put my bag in the trunk, his bag in the backseat, and all of our sticks between the small space of the passenger seat and the passenger door. I get the comfort of driving normal because they would hitch a ride to the rink :P

With the car arrangement, I could normally take a max of 3 team-mates. I haven't tried max-ing out with the SUV yet.

I'd always take my old Defender but now I just borrow the wife's SUV. The couple times I've had to use my car it all rode shotgun in the passenger seat.

In my Lancer sedan, I throw the gear bag in the trunk, then sticks in the back seat, blades on floor mats (so water goes into the mats after the game), handles pressed against rear windshield.

in my tiny Geo Metro sedan...

gear bag in the back. sticks: butt end on the back seat wrapped in a sock so it won't stain my seat and diagonal into the front passenger seat dripping on the floor mat. candy bars and energy drinks in the floor on the passenger side.

girlfriend has to ride on the roof. j/k i let her have the passenger seat sometimes.

Usually in my dads A6 we put the back left seat down and my stick go from the trunk to the middle of the back with the bag in the truck. Around 3 or 4 weeks ago my Dad drove me and 2 teammates to a camp in Pittsburgh (thats about 7 hours away). We fit three bags in the trunk horizontally, ALL of the luggage for 4 people in the front seat and the sticks in between the door and the passenger side seat. My teammates and I sat in the back.

I drive a Toyota Corolla. Bag in trunk sticks in back seat with the blades on the mats.

If I'm playing shinny with friends I'll just bring a backpack and throw that on my back seat and put my skates on the floor.

BMW 3-series, sticks go in the backseat butt end first and then laying over the rear deck. Bag goes in kind of sliding the sticks over a bit. I don't have a huge bag so it works fine.

I have a hatchback and my wife has a small subaru station wagon, so I do the same thing in each. I put the bag in the back and the sticks butt-end down behind the passenger seat with the blade just over the back of the back seat.

When I had a Neon....bag in the trunk...sticks in the backseat (blades down). Which meant, if I was going to hockey right from work...I had to bring my sticks in with me...because leaving stuff in plain vision is really not advised.

Now...Pick up truck with a tonneau cover. Everything is in the back. I could probably fit 3 or 4 bags if i needed to.

i've been keeping a bike rack in my trunk. this reminds me i need to clean it out this week. i've been keeping my bag in my backseat the past month or so, with my sticks going front to back resting on my front passenger side floor.

Same car, and same thing with my sticks. I got a NBH 'small car' bag so it helps that it's a bit thinner and taller than other bags so I can slide it flat in the trunk or in between the floor and the backseat and still allow someone to sit there.

SUVs are great.. I can fit my golf clubs, and my hockey bag in there =)

I do the same thing in my two door coupe without putting the seat down and I get 26MPG.

My wife has a Chevy Suburban and I have a GMC Sierra 2500. Both are great for hauling hockey gear, but both vehicles

and a gallon of gas in each, and I still would be walking before I hit mile marker 26!
