Skate fit recommendation

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to hit a few LHS tomorrow and have a rough idea what I'm looking for based on my past skates. Could anyone recommend models to start with based on these preferences? Apologies if some of my preferences totally contradict

- shallow fit

- deep and narrow ankle

- wide forefoot

Yes, I do have feet like a duck.

Thanks, JR.

I just went thru the CCM '07 catalogue thread to read up on CCMs. Looks like I won't find any Tacks anymore. And to think my old 1052's fit so well. From what I understand, the Vectors fit a bit more narrow in the forefoot than Tacks? Could I get a pair of Vectors and try punching them out or would that be overkill?

The Flexlites are snug in the ankle and wider in the front. Give those a try too. The more skates you try, the better idea you'll have. Process of elimination. ;)

It also depends on what you consider "wide"

I consider my forefoot wide but I fit comfortably in a regular width 07 Vapor.

True, we have a lot of people come in and tell us they have a wide foot, then when we measure them, they are a C.

same here i fit fine in a D vapor. don't get too hung up on width, unless you are extremely wide, in all likelihood you'll do fine in a D. i'd try ccms like JR said or maybe some bauer supremes. i can't quit bragging about how much i love my new vapors.

CCM didn't fit me at all in my ankle (too wide), which is, obviously, pretty narrow. You could probably fit in them if you squeeze into the smallest size you can, though. I tried on a 7 and probably should've been in a 6.5, but the store didn't have any.

EDIT: Those were Vectors, not Tacks.

Only problem is that he wants a shallow fit, and Flexlites fit very deep.

Depending on how "shallow" your looking for, the RBK line could very well work despite being on the deeper end. It's worth a try-on.

I had always assumed that a shallow fit meant a shallow ankle. With a shallow fit and a deep ankle, what part of the boot is shallow? I consider my G5 Ultras a shallow boot comming from the Bauer 6000s that came up higher and stiffer on the ankles. I had assumed that was what a deep boot meant, but I must have missed something here.

The G5 is just lower cut than the 6000s. The cut of the boot has nothing to do with deph. I'd consider my AG 110s a deep, wide ankle, but they are very low cut.

Nope, overall volume of the boot

Thanks for all the input.

I think I should place the narrow ankle as the highest priority. Although having a shallow fit would be nice too because I've had skates where I lace them up real tight and can still move my forefoot around a lot.

For what it's worth, I'm guessing I have a narrow heel/ankle; I don't fit in CCM's (as I stated earlier in the thread), or Vapors (the one's that fit length-wise, 6.5 was too short and crunched my toes, 7s were too sloppy in the ankle). I ended up walking out with Mission 100 AG's, so I don't know what's up with my foot shape

The best thing to do is to try on every skate in the store, since you never know what will fit you.

While we're on the subject of skate fit...what kind of skate fits a low volume, low-arch, wide forefoot?

--nick--

The RBK's would work for you....that is if your foot shape is the same as mine....but otherwise, yours and my feet have the same characteristics.
