jjtt99 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2007 For league, our full-time goalie pays 1/2.Spare goalies don't pay anything. Nor do goalies pay for drop in.
DEATHTRON 19 Report post Posted August 8, 2007 heres the deal at my rink. if you go into the draft the league fee is waived. if you want to play with a specific team, then you pay the rink fee. now here is where it gets good. if you make it to all of your games you get a $250 gift certificate to the pro-shop. the thought process for that is, if we have all the good goalies in the area play at this rink, all the players will want to play here too.Thats for Roller though....its not near as expensive as ice last time I checked, what are your league fee's?Zach
wickedlite44 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2007 One season is $145 for 8 games plus playoffs, the league usually consists of 4/5 teams total .
sonsplayhockey 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2007 It's a supply and demand thing. Sometimes there seems to be plenty of goalies around and they pay, but other times there's a sortage and seemingly everyone is willing to offer a spot on a team for free. The way I see it is that if it takes a free goalie to fill out a spot any where, league or drop-in, I'm ok for it cause it beats having to play against that damn Rick O'Shay, lol.I agree w/ this statement above.I play in 2 leagues. One is HNA (Hockey North America). Goalies Pay w/ this league. For the other league:If we got a kick ass goalie, and our skaters were not on par w/ the rest of the division, maybe we'd not have him pay. But that's not the case w/ my team. Our skaters are about average for the division so we get an average goalie and he pays. This other league is a team fee. Captains decide what they want to do. On my team, the goalie pays about 75% of everyone else. I"m at a C level so the goalies are not that experianced. I have goalie gear myself and sub sometimes. Total paid was about $300 on ebay. My regular gear I bought new and was more than that for everything. Starting out, my opinion was goalie gear seemed a better deal used because everything was broken in. I may end up playing goalie in the fall instead of skating out. If I do, I'll be paying 75%. The other philosopy after me and the other captain played on another team was that goalies that pay will more likely show up. We had played on a team where they had 2 goalies and they did not pay. One did not show up for half his games (thus I kept my goalie gear in the car and took it in the locker room nearly every game to see if he'd show up). The other goalie sucked so much that we hoped he'd not show up.
crazykeeper3317 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2007 ok I'm a goalie i have no problem with paying for my rink time, my match fees cause its fair really. on a few occasions ive had teams drop my fees if they are in need of a goalie. one thing though which isn't fair is when your team tries to charge the same fee as normal on a monthlty basis when you are out injured or working towards your exams which are two reasons i had to take time out over the last two seasons both times ive come back to the club saying i owe them money! not suprisingly i quit playing ice for them is it? technophile 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2007 Around here, goalies pay about half price. For example, this winter's season will be 25 regular season games plus playoffs. The player price is $495, the goalie price is $250.It's been so long since I went to a drop-in or a learn to play that I have no idea if they charge goalies or not for those. :)
nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted August 10, 2007 When I ran teams, I always charged the goalie half price. Now that I'm running a league, I'm using the same idea. We are charging $150 for skaters, so goalies are $75.

swede 50 Report post Posted August 10, 2007 our goalies pay for themselves. But the fee is so low here that it's allmost ridiculous. We pay like $150 to play 1,5h 4 times/week from september to april. That fee also includes 4 free skate sharpenings with profiling included.

Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2007 I've never heard of goalies not paying league fees, but I've never seen a goalie pay for pickup. Our league averages to almost $500 USD per man for about a 13 man squad. No way we could afford to let a man slide and swallow the cost.
#96 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2007 I've never heard of a goalie using the excuse that because he has to spend more money on equipment, he shouldn't have to pay. What a joke. For open/rentals, I usually don't see goalies paying. But for league games, absolutely! They're out there more than anyone.

donkey87 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2007 The rink I play at lets goalies play for free during open hockey and they get a discount on league fees. Some goalies play only as subs, and while they might play for several teams they don't play and can usually get just as many games as guys who are on the roster. He doesnt know the business and what it takes to get people in the door. worse news is an 8 game season for kids is now 199 if you sign up late, which is crazy imo. Not every goalie likes playing goalie, i'm playing on my friends team because they can't find a full time goalie. It's for the greater good of the team because no one else wants to play goalie. Your doing your friend a favour so that would be a different story. Because if you really didn't want to play goal you would have just said NO.

mrusse01 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2007 I've never seen a goalie pay for 'drop-in'...it is usually called 'shinny' or 'pick up' here in Canada.Something where like the same 15 guys or so rent the ice everyweek, I've seen it where sometimes the goalie pays and in some cases he doesn't, usually comes down to who easily the guy who organizes everything can find a goalie. For fully organized leagues with refs and everything, I've never seen a goalie get a full ride, almost all the time it is team based fees so the team captain just splits the cost between everyone, sometime the goalie will get a small break on the price. Speaking of which, you guys drop down the net and play bounces (off the end board I'm assuming) when you don't have a goalie? I've been playing for 20 years and have NEVER seen that, must be a regional thing. The only acceptable thing to do without a goalie around here it to play you have to hit the post/crossbar to score (back crossbar doesn't count), sometimes I actually enjoy playing that more than I do playing on a really bad goalie. You can actually get a pretty competitive game going if there is one goalie and you switch ends every time a team hits a post.
