It's always under debate. Just like a certain someone from Nashville, who in my opinion, needs to pay the NHL to step onto the ice for each game he plays in.

-snip- it would in a way reflect on all the Leafs and Anti-Avery fans that suspected... Avery was just being a complete Dbag. Something along those lines.

Waitaminnit, waitaminnit... the notion of Avery being a complete dbag is still under debate?

Haha, nah, I won't even debate that, and you know me. I'll complain about anything.

I just don't think he was complete Dbag, not in this case anyway, but I'm sure he'll present us with plenty more opportunities to label him as such.

Mack - who has the stache? Cuthbert? He got turned down by Paris Hilton? She banged Tom Sizemore! I didn't know she turned anyone down.

I knew he liked boys and that cements it. He gets to keep the visage of being with a girl, but goes with one built like a 10-year-old boy. How very Spartan of him.

what?? he's completely bypassed the sheldon souray staple of dating playmates?

sean avery is 27 - mary kate is 21 i guess thats not as bad as i originally thought..

i don't think anyone posted this yet so here is avery's official statement:

"I am extremely upset and hurt that false and damaging comments were attributed to me regarding Jason Blake. I made no such comments. I have lost two grandfathers to cancer and have been a consistent contributor to multiple cancer related charities, first and foremost, Hockey Fights Cancer. I am unable to comment further, as the matter is now being addressed by legal counsel."

Not saying he did or didn't say anything as speculated, but obviously he'd deny it. It's not going to court so why not come out and say you didn't say that. I would hate to think any player would use something like that beaking someone, but Avery is a person I could easily say something like that.

This story has rather quickly expanded into crapload of douches trying to out-douche one another.

well both teams got fined now - so maybe that will be the end of it

although im sure there will still be some bad blood next time the rangers play toronto

"TORONTO – The New York Rangers organization has been fined $25,000, the Toronto Maple Leafs $10,000; the Rangers Sean Avery fined $2,500 and the Maple Leafs Darcy Tucker $1,000 for their actions in the pre-game warm-up in NHL Game #236 on Nov. 10.

"The unprofessional conduct of Avery in initiating this altercation, less than a week after being involved in an incident in the pre-game warm-up against New Jersey, is the basis for this discipline," said NHL Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "Tucker also bears some responsibility for his inappropriate response. Both organizations must also be held accountable for the players’ actions.”

Team fine money goes to the NHL Foundation; player fine money goes to the NHL Players' Emergency Assistance Fund"

Maybe as far as the NHL and the teams are concerned, but it won't stop the radio and internet guys from beating it to death.

it's called job security i guess - create controversy and stay on the air.

although it backfired for imus - maybe canada is more forgiving of that stuff?

Brooks pretty much mimics my thoughts that a TO meeting in the first place wasn't really needed

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11142007/sport...8593.htm?page=1

BTW, Avery may turtle when he fights, but at least he doesn't use helmets as weapons when he fights people, ALA Tucker

You are talking about two of the biggest dirtbags in the league in this situation as well as an guy who is no angel in Blake (Isle fans will attest).

If you watch the Tucker/Janssen fight you'll see Tucker's helmet gets caught on his hand or wrist. He swings with it and then lets it go. Not intentional.

In response to the Brooks article- when he asks why the league felt it was necessary to call Avery in for his actions is really quite simple. This is the second time in a week that Avery did that. It needs to stop. Brooks can act like Avery has been an angel to the media and portray Belak like an idiot (which he is), but the fact that Sather refused to let Avery even speak to the media after the game speaks volumes.

That's the thing, Kosy

Avery, Tucker, Belak. All douchebags. Let's not pretend one is better than the other because they have all done and said stupid things on and off the ice.

Great article

And don't tell me that Avery may have said something particularly awful. Folks, these players say terrible things to each other every night. To say trashing another player's family is out-of-bounds is laughable - saying ugly things about an opponent's wife or girlfriend is standard NHL fare.

Bingo...I said before. It's almost like some of us were raised in doll houses here

Also supports my stance that this was blown so out of porportion that it is ourtrageous.

I have to go with you on that, Kosy. I understand the chirping, but there's no need to do it before every game. It just becomes ridiculous. And Avery does beat it to death. He lurks around the red-line before every game and just shouts at other skaters hoping to get a bite from somone. The team and the organization know about it, and have a responsiblity in it. It should be curbed.

I think the crap at the red-line gets Avery's adrenalin pumped. Game prep ritual for his benefit and no one elses.

If the opposition were aware of this, they wouldn't react - that is the Leafs were stupid for getting into it. All fired up he played a good game.

Theo you would know about chirping on-ice how?

Don't be so naive, Mack. Chirping is at virtually every level. Even the countless number of kids through men league games I have seen including the few I have been a part of. Hell, I see chirping in pickup weekly. Kind of foolish, but it is there. A simple person would infer that this trash talk would get worse at players get older, wiser, and more emotional. And behold, from NHL clips we have seen, countless number of games, in game mics, etcetera- My conclusion is true. One does not need to skate on NHL ice (have you or any of us aside from Dave Perron) to know chirping exists there.

What I'm saying is that if anyone went to the level of beaking someone for their illness, it's gone beyond the "normal" level of trash talking most would hear. There's some truth to one being presumed able to tolerate the mother, wife, family, etc. jokes to an extent. There's a gaping difference between a standard crack on someone close and a crack involving something personal like an illness. Again, I would really hate to imagine anyone going to that level but if it did happen, who's going to cry if they get the crap beat out of them?

Definitely fair, Mack. I don't know if the post came up or not, but Cancer hits home here and I am glad to hear that Avery did not make the comments. Once again confirmed tonight during the NYR-NJD game. Seems even Avery has that line and limit you speak of. But what I also said in my earlier post is that it wouldn't surprise me to hear anything out there from any player.

And as a few members mentioned, Avery has a beaten coming from even before this minor incident. He'll get his eventually. Wouldn't surprise me at all, in fact I expect it.

The Rangers looked great tonight, their big guys all contributed really well, Staal got his first goal, and Jagr was really strong on the puck all night. I thought he made some really good moves past the D as well as the poke check on Brodeur that led to his goal.
