Low Life At Rink

Recommended Posts

Well, just came out of my dressing room after changing after a game. I realized I'd left my mat in the dressing room, so I put down my bag and sticks and go in for a second to get my mat. I chat with the guys for maybe 45 seconds and then go out again to put my mat into my hockey bag. I look down and see the skate holders open on my bag. No big deal right I forgot to zip them up. WRONG! Some weasel went into my bag and lifted my Easton 1100's and shot out the back doors while I was in socializing. Thanks pal! I hope you choke on the cash you get for them.

Damn that blows dude. I cant see how people would steal skates since well they smell like shit half the time.

Yep, unfortunately happens all the time.

Since not all rinks will offer the keys and/or not everyone always picks them up we can't always lock the door. So, someone stole about $75 out of my wallet (and others) while we were playing a few weeks ago. A few years ago someont took someone's keys (while we were on the rink) and clicked the key-fob until they found the car in the lot and stole the dude's car.

That sucks man. That's why I always try to keep everything with me at all times, having something that expensive stolen from you just hurts. On the bright side....time for new skates!

That's why we go with the key/wallet bag that comes out to the bench. We had bags rifled through once in a "locked" room. Some kid had a spare key he used to get in.

Sorry to hear bro, I had a pro stock Stealth stolen from me last month. I got the stick for free so maybe that's why I'm not super bitter about it.

I had another friend have his bag stolen out of the bed of his truck. He went to Play It Again Sports to buy some replacement equipment when he noticed his bag was behind the counter. Sure enough, the thief has sold his equipment to the store. The store requires you to fill out information (presumably a driver's license) for this very scenario. So he was able to call the cops.

So I dunno if you have a place nearby that buys used equipment--or check Craigslist/eBay. Seems far fetched for a guy to steal a random pair of skates which would also fit that guy.

This happened in Grapevine.

I play at a few of the rinks - Plano, Grapevine, Farmers Branch, Richardson. However, it depends on the teams I'm on at the time as I play year round.

Execution....that is the only way to deal with thieves. NOBODY deserves to have their stuff lifted like that.

I was there once when a team caught someone in their lockerroom - no one was missing anything, but the 15 year old kid had over $100 on him (this was 6 years ago or so) so one had to wonder if other lockers might have been a bit shy. I seriously thought they were going to beat him senseless (had a bunch of weight lifters on the team that were on the juice if you catch my drift, and they are not known for being understanding). Fortunately for the kid, the rink director came in before he got a beating of a life time. Since they couldn't prove he took anything (as they got there after he'd only been in there for about 3 minutes) they had to let him go.

A few of the smart theives don't boost ALL the money - they take a little out of everyone's wallet and no one is typically the wiser.

Sorry to hear/read about your situation but if it helps, SportChek (in Canada) has the Easton Synergy 1100s on sale for $249.00 Cdn. if you are looking for the same skate.

Does the rink you skate out of have security cameras? The rink I skate out of does and people get busted all the time.

Our rink has refused to install them despite numerous incidents.

I had an employee from the rink in York PA steal a Cale Hulse pro stock Response while I was taking a shower. When I pointed it out to the rink manager I was told he bought it from "some guy" and that was the end of the investigation.

I had my mouthguard lifted out of my bag as well as my undershirt and my bloodsugar monitor.

Who wanted a mouthguard and a sweaty underarmour shirt that badly to steal it? Though I was PISSED about my monitor. I had to run and buy a new one in between games.

we should all bring a "mystrey bag into our locker rooms for cases like this. have one that has like a bear trap or something so that when someone puts their hand in there, CHOP...! all gone... would it be against the law to do something like that?

In the "everything is a potential lawsuit" world that we live in, I bet you'd end up getting sued by the would-be thief.

but im sure that the courts would understand the person deserved it. Although the theif may deserve it, your most likely be the one in the most trouble.

No security cameras at my rink. I live in Toronto the good. Nothing like that happens here, YEA RIGHT! Had my Synergy sticks stolen not two years ago as well. In the future I'm not letting my equipment out of my sight and I won't bring anymore valuables into the locker room if possible. This is just too much!

really... i mean it is your stuff? but i guess it would be like leaving a gun in your bag and having someone else use it. i think you'll get in trouble for not keeping it in a safe place or something. crap where is real justice when we need it. <_<

Sorry to hear about everyone's losses. That sucks. Fortunately, I've never had a single thing stolen, but I make it a point to NEVER bring anything inside the rink with me. I'm pretty neurotic about having shit stolen, so I'll leave my watch, wedding ring, and phone in my car. At times, I'll even bring my stick into the changing room with me.

and only have just enough cash to pay for the night, and no wallet.

Anyway guys, I appreciate the empathy. I hope this never happens to anyone else on the forum here and if it does ,I hope they catch the no good who pulls it off.
