Quick clarification about Rbk skates...

Recommended Posts

So Rbk has put out three years worth of skates... right?

How did the models run within those three years?

Most recently it goes 9-7-5 and 4-3-1 the former being pump.

But wasn't there a 8K somewhere along the line? And was 8 ot 9K the top model from the first year? Or did it top out at 5K...?

If you're interested in durability reports, to my knowledge, no one on Modsquad hockey has reported on a pump that no longer works.

(Yeah, famous last words I know...lets see if I'm wrong.)

Yeah, I tried on some really really lightly used 5Ks the other day and I really liked the boot and the pump was actually remarkedly comfortable... they were 99.99$ and like I said, barely used... just wanted to see whether it's a good enough deal to give them a shot by.

I believe I've heard of a couple ones that failed. Cant remember who but I believe one was a friend of a member. It's pretty rare, I would imagine that if a pump breaks it's from abuse.

I've heard about several of the lace locks breaking.

I was in my Vector 8.0's for 2 years and never had an issue with the lace lock. Now I am in the RBK 7K and for me, the fit is perfect. Cut a touch wider than the Vectors (more like the Tacks) and I really like the pump chamber as it inflates above the heel pocket, adding more pressure and support to keep your heel locked and planted into the sole of the boot.

A new guy on my team last year got the 5k's and converted for roller and the pump started leaking, apparently it was fine on the bench and when he went on the ice/floor it deflated within a matter of seconds.

I guess its what I heard off some guy but take it for what you will.

I broke the pump on my right skate blocking a shot. I have no plans to send them back, its not worth the time and I have adjusted to not using the pump. With the pump, I stopped lacing two eyelets to the top, without it I lace all of the way to the top. Not a big adjustment at all.

The lace lock is easily replaced. All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver. Take it to your LHS and get a new one. I have taken them off in-stock boots and then called RBK to get new ones to put on my stock boots. Your customer is happy and the skate is fixed.

The pump on my 5K's didn't fail, but they do leak a bit. I had to pump them up

mid game or practice. Locks never failed me.

Were they leeking, or was your skate loosening up due to skating in them?

Yeah, my buddy just got a pair of the 5k's probably a month ago and he would wear them around the house, but he soon found out that they were deflating when they were pumped up. He returned them and got new ones, so far so good on his new ones. Other than that I have not heard of many cases with the pumps

I have a pair of 8K's and haven't had a problem yet. I do find it a bit annoying to undo them after the game probably because I'm just used to undoing my skates in a certain manner and the lace lock just seems like an extra step to do. The lace lock is a great idea but doesn't seem to effect my skating in any way. Never had a lot of problems with my laces loosening during play so for me it's not an important feature.

I wanted the 9k pumps, because I had the first pumps when teh came out back in the day and the pump filled in the dead spots. However, I didnt want to shell out $400, so I went to a tent sale at a lcoal Play it Again Sports, and got some 8k's brand new for $120. I was very pleased. I used CCM Vector pros pefore these, so the transition is almost seamless.
