How to shine a helmet?

Recommended Posts

they make it look new because they are always wearing new helmets. I doubt they wear game helmets in practice, and if you think about how some teams have third jerseys, they are really only wearing each helmet a maximum of 30 times or so.

I highly doubt that pro's go through that many helmets in a season. I have noticed that some NHLers have a glossy look to their helmets. Either a glossy paint or clearcoat...or their equipment managers shine 'em up really nice.

Spraypainting voids the warenty on helmets, some way the plastic polymers react with the paint, so, no clear coat.

They're constantly wearing new helmets. I got one brand new from the islanders and its the same shine as the same exact helmet i bought from a store.

sorry, I mispoke, not the warenty, the certification, spraypainting voids the hecc certification of the helmets, which makes them illegal to use

What do you mean that many helmets? One for each jersey, and maybe two for practice. Thats 5 per player on average. Its nothing compared to the stories you hear about players going through 25 pairs of a skates in one year.

Well, take the leafs for example. I'm willing to bet that most guys have a home and away helmet and use the same one for the year...unless they're experimenting with a new helmet or sign an endorsement deal with a new manufacturer (in the Leafs case, I suppose they all needed a green helemt for when they used those green St. Patty's jerseys).

The lighting at an NHL game is much brighter and can cause the helmets to have a bit more glare on them.

I remember seeing a few pictures of guys wearing Gretzky helmets in practice. I know one was Rob Ray, he had some huge ass sticker on his, and I want to say the other one was Smyth. Sounds like a Smyth thing to do anyway.

Yup, it was Smyth. That reminded me of a picture of Ray giving the camera the finger during the playoffs last year, :D .

Hmm, maybe I'll wear my Gretz Jofa to ref tonight.

One of the refs at my rink wears one. With it he actually kinda looks like Bob Gainey in his playing days.
