Getting A New Shaft

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Im going to be getting a new tapered shaft soon and was wondering which I should get. Right now im considering these:

Mission L-2

Innovative 1100 (might get the commander just because)

Easton Synthesis

TPS R2 XN10 (is this tapered?)

Im looking for something that will be really durable, as in I don't want to break the thing for a good while. Also I need a blade to put on the business end so any suggestions here are much appreciated. I play inline on smoothed concrete. A little bit of background info is that I am 6'1" 220 and play center. If you think a different shaft whether it be standard or tapered would be better for me or maybe even an OPS let me know because at this point I am open to any suggestions. If you need any more info let me know. Thanks for the help.

R2XN probably will be your stronger/lightest shaft...

However I am partial to the Flyweight Meta if you can find it. My guess is the L2 will shoot the same as the Flyweight Biogirth.

I haven't used the Flyweight too much yet, but enough to form a good opinion on it I guess. I don't really like the Flyweight too much. I liked the Synthesis more than it for the short time I had an Inno blade in the Synth. The Flyweight is my heaviest stick, when it's supposed to be known for its lightness right? I have a Biogirth with an Inno blade if that makes a difference.

For you, I'd suggest getting maybe a Vapor XV or an Inno 1100 tapered without Polarfibre if you can find one.

Well of what you listed, from what I have used, the SyNthesis is not a bad choice. If the L2 is anything like the flyweight its gonna be one heck of a shaft. That is the only tappered shaft that I have tried that's any where near the good old T-Flex.

just, for gods sake, dont use SyNthesis blades. Those things were terrible.

Have to add another vote for the R2 XN10. I have a XN10 that I made into a tapered shaft and its great. I know the price is steep for the retail shaft but you may be able to find a GI XN10 and then use it till the blade breaks.

Where's the love for the 1100? I personally can't form an opinion on the R2 or L2 (hey, just kinda looks like someone copied someone, lol just kidding) but I've used both the Synthesis and the 1100 and hands down I'd pick the 1100 anyday.

The Synthesis I have had has been a tank durability wise, for the shaft anyway. I have gone through 3 blades in about a months time, but I love the feel of it. I'd recommend it.

I've used Responses as tapered shafts with an Easton t-flex blade and it's a fantastic combo. I'd go with thr R2 or XN10 R2 depending on your price range.

The mission shafts are remarkably well balanced. It's not surprising that they have Aldila (a golfing company) produce them. The L-2 is definately my pick of the bunch. Now if they only would include grip as an option...

The flyweight's a nice shaft, but not great for slapshots from what I've noticed. I've got horrible form, but I've got a better slapshot with EVERY shaft I've used than a flyweight (UL, f4, tps rubber). However, the shaft has very nice feel and gives you good velocity on wrist/snap shots.

L-2 might be a nice shaft, but for the price, I'd just get a pro-stock xn10, use it till the blade died and then slap in a tapered blade like dgaronzik/legodoom have done.

I didn't like the feel of the XN10 after I cut it down and put an R2 blade in it. So, I wouldn't recommend that. I think the L-2 will be a good choice price wise when it comes out.

I can't really recommend the L-2 or R2 XN10 as I've never used them. And I'd take the 1100 over the synthesis.

Well I'll be getting my new shaft sometime before April 11th. Will the Mission L-2 even be available by then? If not, I'm thinking I'll probably go with the inno 1100 unless someone can talk me out of it.

Also what blade should I use? If I get the L-2 I'll just get the version with two blades. If I get an Inno 1100 should I get an Inno Composite? If so which curve should I start with? Like I said earlier I play on smoothed concrete and I play center.

What do you guys do to your sticks? I'm on the ice 5 days a week in the winter taking hundreds of shots a day and my ops last longer than that?

I have just always broken sticks, no matter what. I was 10 years old and snapping aluminium sticks, I think it might be the way I shoot, but I'm not about to change my ways, because my shots are all good, forhand, backhand, all of them.

I'm not sure which league you play in Ljack, but I've found since I stopped playing at a high level my sticks last much longer. It wasn't so much the shots, it's more the battle for pucks, hacks, slashes and such. I played AA/AAA as well as high school last year, and most OPS lasted me around 3-4 weeks. Just under the warranty period, where this year they seem to last just a little under double. I'm now just playing High school (or at least was) and houseleague.
