Are my skates prostocks?

Recommended Posts

So i found some "only used once" 1500c's on the auction site and i decided to take a chance since they were at a good price. I'm happy with my decision, the skates are like-new and fit very well but there's something bugging me, i think those are prostocks skates. 4 things make me think so:

1- The skates came with Tuuk Custom+ instead of Razor Bladz II. (I didn't noticed it in the picture) (See 1st pic)

2- I can't find any sizing anywhere. (see 2nd pic)

3- The skates say: "PATENTS PENDING - Do not heat these skates! Heating will cause damage and void warranty" I thought 1500cs were heat moldable? (See 3rd pic)

4- While the left skate fits perfectly, the right one feels small. Duh.

Pics: Complete view

No sizing

Patents Pending

Also, i don't know much about holders. Should i be happy about having Custom+'s instead of Razor Bladz II?

Thanks.

I would rather have the Custom+'s, and I think most people would agree, but that's PP. I may be mistaken but I actually thought the 1500Cs were not heat moldable, retail skates included.

1300c are definatly not heat moldable... im like 98% positive the 1500 c are. Aside from that Custom+ are a much better holder. Maybe your right foot is bigger. And if they fit dont worry about it.

is the sizing on the sole, under the footbed?

I couldn't find anything the first time i checked but you are right, i found the sizing on the shockdoctor footbeds, near the toes.

Also, i'm sure the 1500c is heat moldable. Can anybody tell me if there's this warning on their 1500c's?

Easton ProStock will usually say something akin to "Do not sell to the public."

lol go figure...

the lining on the inside will usually have no markings, and the toecap will be reinforced with an application that is less prone to abrasion (in comparison to the retail version.

I just checked pix of my old 1500c's, they did NOT say "do not heat" on the bottom. Just PATENT PENDING, and they WERE heat moldable.

Just one guy's take... however, what I think you may have there is the first round production mules.... they did it with the 1300's too. Pre-mass production. Not quite proto-types, but not their final mass production jobbers either.

Do the backs of the skates look like these?

backs.jpg

or do they say something else? I had that pair baked a little while ago.

As far as the holders go, the person who had them before you prolly just had them mounted because thats what they had always skated with. Myself, I've been skating with the easton holders for a couple years now, and any time I have tried a different pair of skates with different holders, it has felt awkward. Its all just personal preferance, what you like and are used too.

There isn't much of a difference from one holder to another, aside from the shape (pitch) and some ending up with bent steel easier then others.

Mine are Pro stock 1500 and they do say "not heat moldable". They are heat moldable though, as I have done it with no problems. Also what does your tennon guard say? Most often (the prostocks I have seen) say "Synergy" or or have different colours than retail models?

Yes willy, they look exactly like this except the button, in the middle, is black, not silverish. As far as pre-production goes, easton have always claimed the 1500cs would be heat-moldable haven't they? I can't see why earlier models would not be.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies. I e-mailed the ladie who sold them to me and all she could tell me was that her ex-boyfriend was not a professional player at all. :P

I distinctly remember the 1500's where heat mouldable and had thicker ankle insulation. The ankle area was also wider to stop chaffing. All of these features where to correct problems Easton had encountered with the 1300 C's and deal with the complaints about them.

Pro Stock would have no mention of warranty unless it was to say there isn't one.

for anyone else who may be wondering the same thing, the ProStock 1500s that DO come with an RBII holder will NOT have perforated steel. we got a shipment of 1500s a couple weeks back, but it was a mixed shipment between retail and some overstock ProStock skates Easton had lying around the factory. once again, the toecap material was slightly different, no "Bio Dry" markings on the inside of the tendon guard, and instead of saying "Synergy 1500" on the outside of the tendon guard, the ProStock on says "Synergy."

I just picked up a pair of Easton Z-Air comp skates from the local pro teams pro return selection. No size markings, cize 8 or 8.5 ( I am an 8 in Bauer and RBK) and Custom + Tuuks size 288. There doesn't look to be any extra rivet holes so it looks like the skate were only mounted with the Tuuks, unless the Easton holders rivets are exactly like the Tuuks. be interesting to really know where yours came from, per return or Easton beta !

Some 1200-1300 pro stocks were made to look like 1500's, could be reason for do not heat tag. I've seen some awefully wierd pro-stocks. I even got a pair with SLM holders.
