Do you go to college hockey games?

Recommended Posts

contrary to my avatar, i'm a huge Michigan State fan, and i love watching those games. I did get my hands on Michigan (UoM) tickets against BC sometime next month i believe.

I think college hockey is excellent. Not like the NHL, but it's great to see guys playing that might have a shot at getting into the NHL. (Jack Johnson)

Cornell here, nothing quite like good old Lynah. The games aren't as exciting to me as the typical student as I'm bitter over the fact that I'm not out there, but it is an unbelievable experience nonetheless.

I just got back from a BYU game vs Long Beach. Good stuff and cheap too ($5 for students). I have a lot of friends on the team and I like to go and show some support.

I agree, college hockey kills NHL hockey i terms of being fun to watch. Does anything beat a great rivalry in college hockey? I've been to UNH vs Maine a few times at the Whitt (as a Maine fan) and it's great.

Most fun ever at a college game though is a toss up, I saw Cornell vs Colgate back in '97 or '98 at lake placid during the championships. Battle of the bands and a great game to boot. It was awesome. Also the frozen four in '96 (I think) in Cincinnati when Vermont surprised everyone. 3 of 4 games decided by 1 goal.

I can't wait until hockey east starts up this year now!!!

i love college hockey, i usually go to alot of games.. alot of umass cause it's so close then usually the beanpot, hockey east finals, and the ncaa regionals if they're around my area. i go to a tournament at uconn and sometimes BC games.. i haven't seen BU play at home though so this year i think i'm gonna go to BC at BU. i also go to random ones here and there, sometimes D3 if i know someone playing.

i like d1 on tv and live, but d3 is a spectacle in itself. Some barns who have max 1000 capacity and bring in 2000 fans, its a tough place to play in when you cant see an open seat, and a band is all over you. Not fun either when after a whistle the student section finds your name on the roster and says, "___ ,______you suck!" clap clap clap.

Got myself tickets to the Gophers vs St Cloud game at Mariucci in January. Games at Wisconsin and North Dakota can also take on a zoo-like atmosphere. They pack those 19k seat arenas.

D1 hockey is a great time, but some D3 games get pretty crazy. Games at Plattsburgh, Geneseo and Oswego get intense and pack in great crowds with pep bands and other fun stuff. College hockey is a great atmosphere

Great post!

This is what d3 is all about. When UVSC or BYU go up to Utah State its a tough game before either team hits the ice. Half of their rink has bleachers and the other side has a few wooden creek-fests for the visiting fans. They wont let you sit in the nice seats (not that I would want to anyways.. I would probably get mugged). A few years ago a good size fight broke out and the goalie took a punch to his mask. It cut his forehead a little bit and was visible to the crowd. Next game they had picket signs with bloody goalie masks etc. I know Utah has the connotation of being a happy mormon hug and love kind of place, but over in Logan... its the wrong side of the mountains out there or something.

When I was in school at PA we'd go to our Team 1 games and, it was just a real small arena but there was a pretty hardcore group of 30-40 of us, mostly my team the second team and friends of players on the first team. Those guys were crazy and knew the refs names and stuff, and had relationship with the ref from each side of the glass. They would yell shit at the refs and sometimes they would laugh, they would yell stuff at opponents (shoulda been there to hear stuff they said when they played WVU). The best part was the ref would only come over and say something to them if they said something that was extremely extremely offensive, to him or to the opposition.

My personal favorite was when they were playing a catholic school. Our team scored and the one kid yells "(goalies last name) you suck! Its all your fault! God hates you and your not getting into heaven!"

College hockey is good times.

I would if I could afford and find the tickets. I'd love to go to U of Minnesota at Minnesota State since I went to both schools.

Gopher games are a lot more fun than Wild games.

The games used to be more fun at the old Mariucci. Now they pat you down at the door.

My dad and I bought season tickets to Michigan State before last season. And i can say I honestly like watching college hockey a lot more than pro. The players seem like they are trying a lot harder at that level.

I have to say my favorite game to watch is when the sioux play the gophers in the final five/frozen four. doesn't get any better than that! fans are crazy, and the arena is always packed beyond capacity. Probably one of the best college rivalries in the country.
