They screwed the pooch by not taking a run at Bryzgalov

Big time. And regardless of what Burke and GMGM say in public, I still believe the story that the 2nd rounder of Sutherby was for them to pass him over

I never really realized how dirty the Caps are.

Honestly, normally they are not. Tonight, I can't argue with that.

Apart from last night and tonight they have played aggressive but clean.

Last night they were listless, tonight they are just hitting whatever, wherever

Although Ovechkin is still classy. After being named the first star for his 2 assist performance, in his interview he says Johnson should be the star, not him "Brent Johnson save our game and bring 2 point to Capitals".

Also, Erskine has been the odd man out a lot, so is trying to play with an edge. I just don't think he thinks at all. He also took someone out from behind pretty badly early. He is trying to hold his place in the lineup when Mo gets back again.

But yeah, can't really argue about it tonight, because I'd lose.

But thats not generally how they play

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Ovechkin fan and as an individual he has shown a lot of class on and off the ice. He is right, he shouldn't have been the first star. Can't say I've ever paid to much attention to Erskine before tonight, but he seems like he is out there trying to hurt people. Brash shows once again that he is incapable of hitting people with anything other than his arms up high. I don't know whats worse, watching a cheap shot like Erskine's at the end of the game, or watching your team not stand up to him.

Morrisonn will be back in the lineup for the Habs game on tuesday, so you will likely have to search the press box for erskine after that.

As I said, the caps plays dirty tonight, not all of them, but a few of them.

Don't form your entire judgement based on this game though, that's all I'm saying.

They have been great to watch for the past few months since Gabby took over

Speaking of brashear, just heard he resigned for another year with the caps at $1.2 mil. No link yet, but will put it up when I get one

Tarik the Caps beat reporter for the Washington Post I believe confirmed this last night.

If so great signing. Personally I like that Erskin is playing with some grit. Other teams, *cough* flyers and senators *cough* have taken runs at our goalies and played the cheap game so we need to put in a D man that is willing to stick up for the team.

If Shultz is in we know he wouldn't challenge a fly. Personally Erskine has been playing lights out the past 3-4 games and think he should be in the starting line up when Mo comes back.

By the way. Any caps fans in VA/MD looking to play tomorrow. Myself and 2 other guys run a little charity hockey/golf thing. We do a monthly pickup. $20 a head, 100% after ice cost goes to American Cancer Society.

Game is tomorrow at 4.15 up at Herbert wells rink in College park (it's usually ballston, but they didn't have ice for us this month.)

http://www.putcanceronice.org/hockey.htm

If you are interested, send me a PM, and I can add you to the roster. We have about 6 spots open.

Cheers

Also, mods, if this is inappropriate, go ahead delete my post. I don't spam, just seeing if anyone wants a game.

Cheers

Something for the Caps fans:

Ovechkin is probably worth $6 million on ice and another $4 million for his personality.

Yeah, they play those at the games on the big screens.

The "what was your first car" one is good too. Some dodgy cars.

Kozlov had a lada, man, those things were a piece of crap

Kris Beech claimed off waivers by the Pens. Is someone coming back from injury that casued Beech to be waived? I thought he was playing well (or at least well enough) for them...he was good in Hershey last year.

He was actually with the nucks.

They put him on waivers, the caps claimed him as a hershey pickup. But to send him to hershey he had to go through waivers again, and the pens picked him up.

He is now apparently on waivers again with the pens organization, who are trying to send him to wilkes barre, although I don't have official confirmation of that

Here's a little youtube for those interested

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TacfETg5G-A

It's "Caps cribs" with Quintan Laing.

He has been great since the callup, as evidenced by the fact that he gets PK time in OT etc.

He is also in the top 40 in the league in blocked shots, and every single person ahead of him on the list has played at least twice as many games as him.

I hope he can stick around but unfortunately it may be hard to keep him in the lineup when everyone is fully healthy. Unless they scratch Petty when clark gets back

How tough was ovechkin tonight. Broke his nose and needed stitches after getting hit hard into the boards by Bouillon, then pots 4 goals.

Nice, he now leads the league in goals and points.

Ovie was insane, 4 goals and an assist, true one-man army...

But alas one-man army's never win in the long run.

He does have more talent with him than in the past, but there are always nights where stars have to carry their team to a victory.

Eric Fehr has been recalled from hershey, after 10 games. he went 2-4-6 in 10 games.

Per tarik over at the post he is now on the caps top line, with kozlov centering the 2nd line.

This is the lineups at practice today

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Fehr

Fleischmann-Kozlov-Semin

Laing-Steckel-Bradley/Pettinger

Brashear-Laich-Gordon

I would imagine Pettinger is the one sitting tomorrow at columbus, but I could be wrong

Joe Finley (UND#2) and caps prospect, starting some shennanigans...in the post game handshake!!!

He's a big boy too, 6'7'' and 229. Plays with a nasty edge. If they win the national title, he will turn pro, if not he will go back for another year. He and a few teammates made a pact to try to win the national title before leaving.

Good character guy.

He was in the box at the caps prospect camp this past summer (I was the doorkeeper for one of the scrimmages) and he is a beast of a man.

Would like to see him get to hershey sooner rather than later

How about McCreary's tackle on Morrison that lead to that third goal.... I almost wanted the score to finish 3-2 to see what the NHL would have to say about that. WTF is the ref doing in the middle of the ice like that?

+1! Morrison was so pissed after that. That was messed up. But hey, in the end we won
