All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 I never thought of it as a dis-respectful move to do.I tried it last night in a tourny and got crosschecked in the head and the other team tried to come at me. But I got outa there cause it wasnt worth getting suspended. My team thought it was pretty funny, and I asked the captain and he said it was kind of an asshole thing to do.Is it looked at as dis-respectful?I never thought so. oggy_3 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 I think in an All-Star game it would be fine and how the guy from Michigan did it to win the game but if someone did it like crosby in a blow out game that would be disrespectful, the reason for Don Cherry calling crosby a hotdog for doing it. All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 I can see how it was dis-respectful. we were winning 6-1 but I wanted to try it in a game (never had) and I had the perfect oppurtunity.but yea...to cross check to the head and try to get at me after the whistle. not sure if thats worthy of trying the michigan
strosedefence34 175 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 I laid a kid out for doing it in a non check roller league when I was younger, but we were down like 7 - 1. I also got a penalty but thats besides the point. There is a time and a place to showoff your skills.

Buzz_LightBeer 969 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Your captain was right. its an asshole thing to do, plus you shouldve expected retaliation doing it in light of already winnign 6-1.
thefelixculpa 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 I play for my college roller hockey team in the NCRHA.Last weekend we had a game vs. Maine, it was the 3rd period with 1 minute to go and 4-4 tie.We called a timeout, our coach was going over a play he wanted us to run, at the end of the timeout our captain looks at our coach, says "I'm going to do the michigan" Coach just laughs, expecting us to run the planned play.Puck is dropped, kid who said he was going to do the michigan ends up behind the net with the puck, Maine players are watching him back there, sure enough he pulls off the Michigan top shelf. It was pretty cool/funny. gatorade09 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I wouldn't pull it in a regular game, if its all star or skills game you can do it. Where was the team u played where u got crossed checked to the head.

Where was the team u played where u got crossed checked to the head.Where were they from? This was just a Thanksgiving tourny with 12 teams. I think they were just some old locals with a bunch of hot heads who wanted to fight.
trevor13478 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 i say if you got the skills, go for it. Just be ready for some consequences. hey, if you're that good nobody should be able to catch you right ;)

brent 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Getting crossed checked in the head is getting off light? If I were on the opposing team I'd be more worried about how we let someone get a shot like that off.
Edge 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I don't know what you'd call it exactly...But we were up about 8-0 on a team in our league and some idiot decided to try it(and missed) and one of our players went right out to fight the kid, and kicked the piss out of him. Honestly if I had a perfect opportunity to do it, I would, but I sure as hell wouldn't miss because my coach would flip out!
brent 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old(24).... but attempting the "Michigan shot" just doesn't seem like a good enough reason to be hitting people in the head with a stick or jumping off the bench to fight.Just my 2 cents. EBondo 233 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I agree with whoever said there's a time and place to show off your skills. Being up 6-1 is not that time. When I did it, my team was the one being blown out. Unfortunately I missed. But came back two games later winning a game I think 5-3 and tried it at the end of the game and scored that time. Nothing happened as a consequence of the other team. They actually congratulated me along with my team.
Wolfpack_1986 154 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 if its to win a game, anything is fair in my book. a blow out? no. just be sure you can pull it off.
5minutesforfighting 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 We were winning 10-3 this weekend and a guy on my team tried it.Our coach told him that if he ever played against a guy that tried that, that he'd spear him and put him on his ass, instantly. It's definitely showboating.
Jim A 4 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 Timing is the key, teams are never happy to give up a grandstanding type of goal. However if you pull it at 4-4 or in OT,etc and its just one of your bag of tricks (see Chavira,Itan) no big deal..That being said, if you play for me, its not something you do outside of a skills comp
slaw 1 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 It's like doing a Tmac to the rack. Throwing the ball up off the backboard and ulimatley alleyooping yourself. Although the NBA's respect is a whole other story. If a guy I ever played against did it the instant the puck dropped into the net his gloves had better drop too.
