k-ody.m 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Does anyone know of any players in recent history that have made the NHL playing house leauge until junior A or Collage level? or no if it even posible?
Edge 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Extremely extremely extremely unlikely. Read up on David Perron if you need some motivation. I believe he was playing a low level of travel hockey before making his run to the show. There is a very long thread about him as he was/is a member of MSH. brent 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 David played house 3 yrs agoThat's amazing. I was sort of cheering for him while he was tearing my Wings up a few weeks ago. =)
maverick 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Some players play junior A because if you play Major junior you forfeit your ncaa rights, So if someone like Kyle Turris He played Junior A so he could play ncaa and he was drafted 3rd overall in the 07 Draft
lee92 2 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 David played house 3 yrs agoNot to rain on his parade by any means, because it is extraordinary, but wasn't it because higher AAA teams felt he was too individualistic and wouldn't select him?If you have the talent and put up the numbers, scouts will find you. It may be harder if you live in a more secluded area, but if you're good enough, you'll move up...and usually if you're good enough, you'd be playing the higher tier hockey rather than house. LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Your "house league is travel"? What, like one of those "multi-organizational" leagues? It's still house. It's still going to be next to impossible for a house league player to make a decent Junior A roster. Hell, it can be hard enough for us guys who grew-up playing AAA to find a spot somewhere - and from there it's still really, really tough to get yourself an NCAA scholly. If you were good enough to play AAA hockey (nevermind Junior, college or pro), you'd likely know it by now. Prove me wrong.
Patrick67 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 What about a Guy like Adam Deadmarsh (I'm pretty sure it was him) who started at age 16?His Progession through the ranks most have been pretty rapid to say the least..
Zamboni 6 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 There will always be exceptions, possibly someone who is an extraordinary athlete taking up hockey later....but it is becoming harder every year for a player outside the AAA stream to have a 'shot' at Major Jr in Canada. Times have changed, Keith Primeau played house at 13 in our local org...there's a picture of Gary Roberts and Joe Nieuwedyk playing together on the SAME house league team here as 11 year olds-imagine facing them 7am Saturday morning when rotation gives your one turn in net :o
Jordan 13 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I guess that the ultimate late bloomer was Ed Jovanovski. He never played hockey until he was 11. Never played triple A until he was 15, then a 1st round NHL pick.So it happens, but it is highly unsual. If I can recall correctly, in the '70s there was player on the Leafs named Denis Dupere who never even played hockey until he was 14.It's a miracle to make the NHL with everything going for you, so it is an absolute moonshot to make it from a disadvantaged hockey background. quasi 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 There have been players drafted out of Minnesota high schools (Blake Wheeler for instance). I know it's not house league by a long shot, but it's not the Q either. ;)
Lfntn10 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I guess while we're on this topic, there was been a question that has been in my mind for like...ever.Is it possible to play D1 hockey as a grad student?
oggy_3 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I hate the people who have it in there mind if you do not make the Q or OHL or WHL at 16 you are not going anywhere, yes it does help to be in the league younger but David is a great example of people who improve later on in there careers some people to not peak until they are 20 and people have to start realisiing also some people will hit there peak at 16 and could be done you never know until it happens. The people who make it in hockey are the ones who don't give up there dream, the kids who give up, go buy cars, get to serious with other things will lose the drive and eventually do not have the dedication to make it. Wolfpack_1986 154 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 and from there it's still really, really tough to get yourself an NCAA scholly.Especially when you cant spell college. That's a pre-requisite for admission, I think.

habookus 1 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Midget C or just plain Midget house league are worse, but David was playing in a pretty weak league. I think he finished the season with like 150 goals in like 30 games or something?
flymonty3 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 I guess while we're on this topic, there was been a question that has been in my mind for like...ever.Is it possible to play D1 hockey as a grad student?I believe it is possible so long as you meet the minimum class hour, age, and other requirements. You have to be an undergraduate student under a certain age (25 I believe) to be playing NCAA D1, but I know there is not an age requirement to play NCAA D.3, and I am almost certain you can be a grad student if your 4 years of eligibility hasn't been used up...
