Philly Strikes once again.

That one really had "potential". His head/neck was basically on level with the little bump/balcony in the middle of the boards. I wonder how long it takes until someone´s neck snaps.

6/10, mack.

Hockey spends more time "defending borderline hits" because baseball and basketball are predominantly "non-contact" and football players don't move nearly as fast as hockey players do and usually use their arms to simply wrap their opponents up. While there is definitely something for the NHL to act on, here, it should be no surprise that more hockey players are injured due to shady contact than athletes in any other sport.

Even the NFL has moved to limit the number of hits that are unnecessarily dangerous, including head shots.

During his playing days, John Stevens was a #4 or 5 defenceman who stuck around for his nasty style of play(that is putting it nicely). Obviously, he has no problem with his team using that style. Colin Campbell better get a sack or just hang it up. Oh wait, the Flyers, Ed Snider, Board of Governors, sorry, this suspension will be a slap on the wrist. Its too bad the 70s Flyers couldn't line up against these Flyers. At least they manned up and went mano-o-mano, not taking guys out went they weren't looking. When you played them, you at least knew they were coming. These Flyers are a gutless group.

VERY dirty hit in my eyes.. No matter if its the Flyers against the Bruins, no matter what happened with this Jones/Bergeron incident, its awful dirty and it really gives me a cold rush down my back. Sick, plain sick.

The problem I have as a Bruins fan is, no one went after Jones for the Bergeron hit. I wasn't looking for a cheap shot, but at least go after him. Obviously with Hartnell getting booted, they couldn't do anything to him.

It was nice to see ward stick up for Chara though. i just wish Chara would throw his size around a little more...

Nice to see Ward stick up for Chara on a completely clean hit. Eager was just finishing his check.

Hartnell's hit could have been avoided, yes, but you can't go and think he meant to do damage because of previous incidents involving the team this year. Yes, it was a dirty hit, but does anyone think that maybe, just maybe Hartnell didn't comprehend how low he was and level to the dashers that he was? Being a Philly fan, I might just be homing because I like the team, but seeing how Alberts got up and skated off under his own power, I can't see anything too major evolve from this. Three games, at most.

Yes you are just being a Philly homer...lol. It was a punk move by Hartnell, and he should get some form of discipline coming his way IMO.

The Eager hit on Chara I don't have a problem with so much. I was speaking more to the Bruins not sticking up for each other going back to last season and Kreichi getting decapped by Mair.

For Ward to go after the guy who took what could have been percieved as hit from behind on the captain is something this team has not done in recent seasons.

Kobasew went after Jones immediately after the hit in October. As for no one going after Jones it's a long season. These 2 teams meet twice more and I expect the hitting to increase each game.

The league still seems lame with policing these types of things. You'd think that with the league trying to polish its image that they would be more on top of these situations. It will unfortunately take a terminal injury to make the league rethink its policies.

so you're saying you're down with the nasty hits that leave someone injured (Bergeron) and now maybe Alberts? somethings loose.

Did I say that? Jesus...you want to talk about something being loose pal? You're the one with the screen name Purple Cobra! You might want to talk to someone about repressed feelings.

Anyway, watch the replay. Hartnell really could have done some ugly damage but lets up. You guys act like Philly is on some mission to play as dirty as possible. You do watch other games, right?

after watching the hit, i agree with halfmoonyote the hit have been worst then it was, he slowed up and i have seen incidences whhere people go to throw the hit and the other players fall and you do as much as you can so you dont hurt them but it doesnt always happen

The thing that gets me about Hartnell's hit is that Eager put a questionable hit on Chara earlier in the game. When it was just meatheads like Downie and Boulerice I didn't think it was a Philly problem. I'm starting to have second thoughts on that one.

Middleton made an interesting comment between periods after seeing the hits on Chara and Alberts. If the league doesn't want to go back to the brawling days of the 70's then something must be done.

Hartnell's speed had little to do with the damage he inflicted, it was the fact that he squeezed Alberts' head between his hip and the dasher. Cheap play. It wasn't a case where Alberts fell at the last second and Hartnell couldn't have avoided him.

Guess what kind of player Colin Campbell was.

this ones worse than the Jones hit IMO. length traveled, contact with head, and injury...

Worse than being out for the season?

oh, no dont get me wrong chadd. The Jones hit was terrible... But i think the actual hit here was way worse. Alberts just got luck as far as results go.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=nt2nHz6AShw

check out this other youtube i found. from the french RDS feed. watch about 0:50 mark onward. notice hartnell changed the freaking direction of his legs and skates WELL before he hit Alberts, and while Alberts was down. The other youtube showed him after the skate direction switch. IMO the change in direction shows he was clearly thinking about what he was about to do, and chose to not stop harder or turn. I think this is pretty damning evidence, suspend him for the friggen season.

Hartnell said that the hit on Alberts was not deliberate.

"I did not try to hurt him," Hartnell explained. "There was no intent at all. I am not that type of player. If you look at all the games this year and past years, I finish my checks every time I have an opportunity."

the bolded bit is the whole problem. if you use this logic, hartnell doesnt even know that you shouldnt be hitting a player who is on his knees. i refuse to believe that nhl players are that stupid.

also, i know hartnell is a better skater than i am and im pretty sure i could have avoided making that hit.

Alberts is lucky he didn't wind up with a fractured cheek bone/eye orbit. The lip of the boards caught his face just below the lip of his helmet. Very nasty vicious intent to injure, I'm all about a physical game but if the league doesn't police this crap the players will.
