ONE95 vs S15 - Puck Impact Tests

Recommended Posts

.....any skate where a sales rep tells me that unless i bake it several times it will never break in is stiff enough in my opinion.

Personally, I felt the one90's weren't quite stiff enough. Although they were far better then the XXX's

I had a pair of those 7000's and had to switch to CCM 852's. I like a stiff skate but they where just a little over the top for me as well. Funny though I found the Easton Z-Air Composite wasn't too bad even though most people said it was in the same league for stiffness as the 7000. Maybe because of the different blade contour or shape of the boot.

7000's were like a cast on your foot. The one90's are probably equivalent in lateral stiffness but have more forward flex. I'm a pretty small guy(5'8" 140lbs.) and I never felt the one90's were too stiff.

Ouch. 400lbs? I'm actually around 6'1'' 170, but a fairly aggressive skate. My XXX's are cracked through the outside quarter panel just from regular usage. I'm not saying the one90's aren't sufficient, I'm just saying they could be stiffer and I wouldn't have a problem.

It looks like it hits closer to the heel on the S15 and closer to the front of the ankle on the NB. At impact, the heel flares out first on the S15... On the NB skate, the tongue flares out first.

The NB skate could be filled with fucking cement for all we know (and all we can see from the video.)

I think nike did a nice test. But The s15 is made with the coil technologie and its made to have a spring effect.SO its like comparing orange and apple.Take it for what its worth.

Um...COIL applies to how the skate flexes forward, not laterally...so perhaps we should take your opinion for what its worth, and that's nothing in this thread.

Every manufacturer does this - there are videos on YouTube of Easton shooting pucks at their own skates.

i simply think the s15 twists like this because of the way the boot is made up, the boot is essentially one piece of composite with leather and other bits attached. when you see the shape and the way the composite is cut/moulded in the ankle area, the upper ankle is only attached via a thinner composite join in the tendon guard area. good for forward flex however not for torsional forces, these torsional forces would not occur with someone wearing the skate because of the foot being anchored in the boot.

i simply see the video as showing the one95 has a strong deadening effect, whereas the s15 shows efficient energy dispersion through the component that is struck which is the large 1 piece.

at the end of the day theories are hmmms and haaars, its always interesting to get a look at what the manufacturers do in R&D though. Im sure if any1 is actually concerned about protection when they come to buy skates, they could ask on here and get the opinion of every1 that has used them.

If the ONE95 and S15 were each cars, which one would you rather be driving when that 18 wheeler loses its brakes and slams into your driver side door? The car with the strong deadening effect or the car that collapses with what you consider efficient energy dispersion? The "roll bar cage" in the ONE95 is going to save your life while the S15 will leave you looking like Dale Earnhardt in Turn 4 of the Daytona 500 in February 2001. It is your body taking the force of the impact in the collision the looser it is strapped into your driver seat. As tight as the S15 may fit you, there is no "roll bar cage" effect in the make-up of their composite boot to disperse the impact of the energy transfer.

Now everyone can say they are skates, not cars but try looking at the test from a different perspective.

Don't knock NASCAR. The NHL would give their left nut for NASCAR TV #'s and NASCAR $$$.

Back on topic. Care to put that S15 on your foot while I load the puck shooting machine?

I do realize how wildly popular NASCAR happens to be in (certain area(s) of) this country - though I can't say I know why. What's the appeal?

The money factor doesn't count: most NASCAR fans down south are inbred hicks living on government aid; they don't appreciate the value of a dollar, so they have no problems forking-over absurd amounts of money for NASCAR flags to fly outside their shacks and silk-screened shirts that probably won't cover their guts and will eventually be stained by all sorts of beer, nacho cheese and various bodily fluids.

Don't forget about the collector plates!

This is a pretty amazing video but do you think that there might have been something representing a foot(Like a hard cast) in the one95? I'd like to see the effects with something like ballistics gel formed inside the boot.
