Equipment Guru

Custom shinguards, where can I get them?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am looking for some 18 or 19 inch shinguards. I have tried 18" Jofa's, 18"inch bauer 7000's, and 18" TPS guards, and none of them fit as well as my 17" Easton 500 guards. Problem is that I am 6'5" and I need them a bit longer bc of my long-azz legs!

Somebody help me out!! Spoke with my Easton Rep, and he said he cant get anything custom like that.

Does anybody have any other ideas? I love the low profile and slim fit of the Eastons.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Go talk to a shoe repair store and tell them what you want, bringing in your current set for reference. They might be able to get plastic or have you buy a second pair to make a franken-pad, then off to the seamstress if they can't work the liner.

not trying to be overly critical...

but i aint gonna lie. you're not much of an "equipment guru" are you now, if you can't figure out how to rig up a pair of shin pads.

No need for that comment...

That being said, you could theoretically get a spare shin pad, cut out the plastic, melt holes into the existing Easton pad and sew it together with wax thread, then heat it with a heat gun to form it. It'll be sort of a floating flap which probably would be more comfortable if you wore them outside the skate.

That's what this guru's suggesting ;)

Hey my man, I forgot more about equipment than you will prob ever know!! Just coming back at you! On a lighter note, I was really trying to locate a custom length Easton guard, and not make a Franken-pad, my fault, I should have been more clear.

Thanks for the suggestions though!

Welcome to the board. Keep in mind, for both of you guys, that attitude won't get you far...

I mean, yeah, you did say "anyone have any ideas?" And people gave you ideas...

As far as a longer stock pad, you're SOL.

sorry man, but it just looked wierd with a guy named "equipment guru" to be making his 2nd post on here about that. its all good, i was just giving you a hard time.

i imagine you could take another set of pads, cut the end off one set, use a soldering gun to melt the plastic seam together, then stitch the inner liners together. or possibly, maybe baseball catcher's pads would be a bit longer. wow you have some long legs, thats all i can say.

So, I'd be surprised if I didn't know the answer already, but...

I'm loving the new S19 shin guards. Problem is, as with most shin guards, I need 13" length, but all other dimensions of a 14". Is such a custom shin guard available, or is that what a reciprocating saw is for? I really would hate to have to redo all that stitching.

I can't help for custom or any modifications like JR, but have you looked at the Warrior shins? I'm unsure if they run up to 18', but from what I heard their shins(Hitman specifically) run pretty long/narrow. But I'm still unsure if that'd work out for you .

Hope I didn't create confusion by adding to an older thread, but I'm looking for 13" length with the girth of a 14" shin. Senior sizes generally start with 14" and there is a dramatic shift in overall size at that point. So, in other words, all 13" shins I've found are way too narrow and shallow, but the 14" is too long.

Toronto hockey repair has custom shins. They don't list anything more than 16 inch but perhaps a call or an email can confirm if they could do a custom.

Maybe Fury Shins....they make 17", if im not mistaken? I saw fury pads at Liquidation world dude, and they were huge! I mean they looked freakish! Long! Maybe look into that?

Good luck!

Have you tried messing with the liner/shell adjustment on stock pads? I had issues with my 14" Reeboks being too long but was able to shift them up about half an inch. Check out most shins with removable liners and see if they can work for you. Otherwise I had advice to just Dremel saw the extra length off.

I think this is old but I found Bauer One95s come in his size

http://www.hockeygiant.com/bauone95sgsr.html

also found the One15s come in 18"

It does look like Bauer adult starts at 13", so I'll be checking out the Pro Series. Warrior adult also starts at 13", but they are more like a junior shin.

I did give this a try. It helped some, but not enough to be the solution. I appreciate the suggestion.

i have the same problem too. fyi, bauer shins generally run a bit longer(almost an inch) size for size compared to reebok...with the exception of the pro series. also, "adult" bauer 13" shins are pretty narrow...again with the exception of the pro series.

more food for thought, reebok "jr" 13" shins seem to run wider than bauer "adult" 13" shins.

Doesn't reebok have shins that run at 13.5'? You could try that.

They do but they do seem quite a bit slimmer in terms of fit.
