predshockey17 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 Ok guys, here is the scoop.I am up at college right now( northern michigan) and on Friday I will be going home in a buddies car, it is a 8 hour trip, for winter break. Now I can't fit my stick into the car, but he does have a ski rack I could tie it to. My question is, will 8 hours with temps in high teens going around 70 miles per hour affect the stick at all? It is a Sherwood wood stick by the way.
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 What kind of car is it? I've found many ways to mangle my 63" pieces of lumber into a number of different cars.Wrap the stick in a few trash bags if you're going to do it, otherwise I would just shell out the $30 for a new stick back home. Is it an actual ski rack, or just the bars? I'm not positive but some of the roof ski racks have speed ratings- they're just to get to the hill, not transport the skis cross-state. Any reason you can't clamp it like a ski?The temperatures might cause the wood to dry out a bit and be more brittle since the wind added with UP temps might get pretty darn cold. My buddies buy a 12 pack of Mountain Dew for the ride home and when they want a cold one, a gloved hand out the window for a minute usually gets it pretty cold.Another option is find a buddy who lives near you and has a wagon or truck to take it for you. 4 of us are carpooling in a pickup, so I'm having another friend take my bag and sticks for me.(By the way, MTU>NMU, go Huskies!) Chadd 916 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 As long as you don't get home and step onto the ice right away and start cranking slappers, you should be fine.

I am pretty sure it is a ski rack( I know nothing about skiing so idk) but he did bring his skis up here on the ski rack.

There's always a way to make it fit. Go across the back window, stack it on top, run it from the dash ot the backseat, there's always a way.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 If you can fit 2 people, 2 hockey bags and 4 sticks in a e36 M3 coupe, you can fit your hockey stick in a volvo.
McDougalfaschnitzer 32 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 There should be plenty of room. I never have a problem fitting two bags, a set of goalie pads, and both player and goalie sticks into my brothers Pontiac Firebird, so I would imagine unless the volvo recently was crashed and is only 3 feet long, you should be able to wiggle your stuff in. Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 You can also place the stick between the driver's and passenger seat (blade either coming down into passenger foot area or facing the backseat). That's how I rolled when I caught a ride with a buddy in his shitbox Honda.

Jesus, I couldn't get my guitars and amp in mine, let alone my girlfriend. I really miss my old Fiero and that particular girlfriend too. She was batshit crazy, but hotter than hell. lb33knight 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I had a 95 Corvette convertible 4 years ago that I had to sell to get the "practical" car. Same old story... anyways, no trunk and only enough space behind the seats to fit a golf bag. My hockey gear had to sit in the passenger seat (I always buckled it up for safety) but I could fit quite a few stick in there if I angled them near the passenger seat. In a Volvo there has to be some way to make it work. If not just cut it in half and tape it together later. That's what wood glue is for.
Hobbes_86 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 1980 Fiat Spider, 3 people with full equipment a total of 6 sticks. (it's a 2 seater and granted the top was down) I could get the sticks to fit down by the door jamb or the center console. No issues with shifting. So yeah I agree a hockey stick in a Volvo shouldn't be an issue.
