Baking skates for 14 minutes?

Recommended Posts

the last 2 posts at the time I looked at it, someone else had noticed the stupidity of what that guy said:

Jesus Christ, you don't bake cookies for that long. You'll likely be looking for new skates soon.

The paperwork that came with my Bauers say 175* for two minutes, don't pull hard against the eyelets, standing is OK but don't flex forward or back.

then another nice friendly reply:

Bake your cookies the way you want, that's not what this thread is about. How many pairs of skates have you actually done? My guess is none. I've done 3 pairs of 7000's, 3 pair of Bauer Classic Gold, one Classic silver, and 2 pair of 3000's, plus a bunch of CCM's and have never had an issue. You're just another self proclaimed expert that has never done a damn thing.

That guy worries me, how many peoples skates has he destroyed (or almost) if what he claims is true :S

That was me  I read the board for the hockey stuff but always check out 'The Rink'.

I love that he says he's done 9 pairs of skates plus 'a bunch of CCM's' but never had any problems. If those were all his then, yes, he did have problems.

My Bauer oven only goes to 8 minutes. I'm not aware of a Bauer over that has a longer timer, unless of course he did two cycles. 15 minutes sounds odd.

my goodness. The only way I can think of that he hasnt destroyed the skates is if he bastes the turkey, I mean skates every few minutes. A dash of bauer skate gravy keeps its stiff and will not dry out the boot. So when you put it on, it'll be just tender and perfect for your foot.

That board's a joke. Some 13 y/o kid tried to have a pissing contest with me and I never posted again.

Somehow I wound up banned from that board because I tended to disagree and brought forth a dissenting opinion when it came to discussing the Bruins. For what its worth, I was right. The B's didn't come close to making the playoffs that year.

THe kid tried to act as if he was the NBH Western Canada sales rep, and then in another thread said that he played bantam hockey.

so far, MSH is the ONLY decent/respectful hockey forum I've come across and I've searched quite a bit. I regard to hfboards, I once posted I was using Bauer Vapor VII's and was roasted 'cause I didn't pony up for the X's! MSH is not immune to stupid post/(er)s, and I've made a couple when under the influence , but over all, so far MSH is the best/only/#1. Period. :)

After viewing the board for a while I have to agree with you. I've amassed a number of posts on another board and I'm pretty much at my wits end with it.

Gear-heads seem to exude a real love and understanding for the game.

This is probably the same kind of guy who tried baking the Synergys when they came out.

What do the manufacturers know anyway?

I did.

You could've baked them, you just had to be careful about it. And they were worried that guys would mess them up.

Losing all claims on a warranty is risky. I guess you can heat anything technically. What temp and how long did you go for?

Maybe he just baked them when they were still filled with foot sweat. 11+ mins to evaporate the sweat and marinate the insides, and ~3 mins of actual softening of the skate.

You bake the Kor skate for about 10-12 mins depending on temp and type of oven. But that skate has far different materials than the average normal type boot and needs that time to get enough heat to allow it to form.

Dude probably wonders why his skates only last a half a season before disintegrating.
