One of my favorite one's is

one of Trottier. Just classic.

I showed a bunch of buddies that video just a little while ago and they loved it. Definately a classic

I don't know about classic, I kept waiting for something clever to be said....

Someone needs to mic up a few players and show a game with full in game audio. Pump up the volume on the board mic's too. Can you imagine how much more interesting it would be for fans if they could actually here all the shit talking going on. I want to hear the conversations between the players/refs or the refs/coaches. I want to hear the players talking on the bench, chirping in scrums. That would be so unbelievably entertaining. Unfortunately you'd have to put it on premium pay cable (HBO, Showtime...) or PPV.

Holy S--t, that would be so f-----g awesome. I can't believe how much f-----g good s---t you'd hear!. You f-----g rock!

Seriously...You'd basically need a guy on each team keeping track of which mics were on the ice and who was on the bench...or it could turn into a real mash of sound real quick. Ya know what would be neat...no play by play...just the natural sound of the game. Maybe broadcasters to do the replays...but during live action...only the sounds on the ice surface.

It's easier in football to have multiple mics, because you've got time between plays to identify who is on the field and make their mic "hot". In hockey changes are happening so fast it would be hard to produce that broadcast (well)...but I would definitely pay to see it.

They should do it with someone like Tucker or Avery. Those guys would be chirping all game long.

Another one I thought was interesting, there was a play where Doan was hauling ass back to prevent an icing. He got there at the same time as the Vancouver player and the linesman blew the whistle for the icing call. As soon as that whistle blew, Doaner laid into him, saying "I got there first, it hit my foot!!" and the linesman told him that he hadn't gotten to it.

On the next shift, the linesman came back to Shane and told him he was wrong and that all he saw was Doan's stick on the outside of the other player's skate and that he didn't have a good angle on the call and that he was sorry. Doan told him it was OK and it was such a bang-bang play that he shouldn't worry about it.

I thought that was a class move on both ends and something you don't hear too often -- at least without somebody being bugged :)

Whenever I watch a HNIC game the ice level mics always sound louder than any other game I watch. I hear the blades cut the ice. I think its great!

US broadcasters tend to pump up the crowd noise instead of the game noise, just like they do for football games.

I don't think it would be to hard to figure out who is on the ice, they can tell how much icetime a player gets.

It wouldn't be too hard. One spotter per bench calling out the numbers as they jump on the ice. Use one audio mixer and spotter per team and you have it covered.

The problem with the mic'd up players now is that most of the time the only crap they can broadcast (due to the language mainly) is a little strategy talk on the bench or the occasional "yeah! we scored."

Kings did a broadcast like that. No play by play, just a mic on the ice, and they used the camera that 'floats' over the ice to give great angles.

up in here in canada last year CBC was on a strike of somesort and for about a month there was no commentating on the games, just the mics near the ice and stuff. it was so fun to watch, and apparently the viewer numbers went up substantially but then sadly they reached an agreement and now i have to listen to bonehead comments again. except i really like kelly hrudey but he's not in-game.
