Downie

Downie is the exact type of player that really makes me want to see the insitigator rule out. There's too many borderline NHL idiots running around with no consequence. Anybody see Hollwegs hit from behind on Horcoff last night? Same type of player same type of reckless play.

Also, about Hatcher's run at Steen Saturday night, Mr. Wreckless bruised Lupul's spinal cord and gave him a concussion, he's out indefinitely.

Downie is the NHL's equivalent of the douchebag who would play you at NHL Hockey on the Sega and knew nothing about hockey, he just liked starting fights and getting your best players taken off for at least 5 mins.

Thanks for the update. I had forgotten about that idiotic play. Flyers headed southbound. I know they won but 56 shots by the Leafs? The Senators will wax them if they give 11-15-19 that many chances.

Except he doesn't actually fight -- unless, of course, his opponent is one of the five smallest players in the league, and restrained by officials.

Has he ever been placed in some form of counseling? I'm not overly concerned about it, if he doesn't develop into a functioning human I'll just blame the loss of a first round pick on Bob Clarke.

And yes the 114 PIM are unbelievable though he did rack up 65 in one game, I'm not sure if that makes it any better.

yes, the OHL made him see professional counseling after the "hazing incident" in Windsor

I don't care who it was that threw that punch - they're still a miserable POS in my eyes. Real classy. My mom's tough when she's behind a referee, too.

Specifically on Downie and his patheric history, there's some sad reading on the Philly fan site. Some of these folks clearly have a different vision of what hockey is supposed to be about than most posters around here do. I get the feeling that these folks gloat everytime someone gets seriously hurt.

TSN "spin"

Downie fans

I love the complaints about how the ref's aren't very balanced or impartial.

Downie sure picks his targets. They have to be not known fighters, and can't be looking when he starts in on them. I'm surprised he doesn't spend his mornings down at the local daycare elbowing 6 year olds and stealing their lunch. I'd love to see him take even a moderately tough guy face to face. I think even an agitator like Ruttu could hand Downie his head on a plate if they just dropped gloves and went, instead of Downie starting or ending it with a cowardly cheap shot.

Final point - I'm surprised the NHLPA doesn't stick up for the protection of it's members from it's own. I've worked in a few different unions, and in all of them, above all else, the biggest sin you can commit is an action that harms a fellow members job or livelihood. This seems to be about all Downie does. It's one thing to fight, it's another to make people risk their careers just by being on the ice as the same time as this idiot.

Players like Downie are not the problem, the league obviously wants guys like that in the league, look at Avery, everybody hates him but if he was a free agent tomorrow, his phone would be ringing off the hook...

Yeah, they want him so much he's been suspended for most of the season. Do you actually ooze this much bullshit or do you just like making posts for shock value?

are you talking to me? if you are, your post makes no sense...

The people who make the discipline calls are not the same people who choses those kind of players...

Wen i say the league, i refer to the people who select players, sign contracts etc...

There to blame, they cut a guy like Giroux and let a Downie make the team...

Oh, so by "the NHL" you mean who exactly? I don't see people calling the Flyers with offers after seeing his douchebaggery so I'm curious as to who these people are that actually want this guy in the league.

oh i'm sorry i had no clue you where the Flyers GM right hand man answering trade calls...

By the way, if you read closely, I said look at Avery, everybody hates him but if he was a free agent tomorrow, his phone would be ringing off the hook...

I did not say trades or anything like that even tho I'm sure the Rangers get some...

To me Downie is no different to Avery, younger yes but no different then wen Avery started...

WOW, those 2 topics are really something.

Does it really surprise you? Philadelphia fans are notorious for being the worst in North American. Zero class.

You know, I sort of defended Downie for the hit on McAdmmond, but this is just a douche bag move all around.

I was hoping Downie would get suspended, since he belongs in an asylum, not a rink, but I've seen numerous fights where a cheap, last shot was put in when either a guy was going down, down, or held, and there was never a suspension for those. I still hope he gets his own soon.

Unless I missed something because the TV cameras weren't great at following the action, there really was no fight. Both players had dropped their gloves, but the sucker punch was the only punch thrown during the game. It blows my mind that a guy like Mike Richards, a guy who I have a lot of respect for, would sign up for 15 more years of this.
