Hockey taught me that there is always someone bigger, better, faster, stronger.

Hockey taught me that the best way to save money is to never go to the LHS in the first place.

Hockey taught me that is the difference between a calm and mild mannered person and an aggressive confrontation person is whether the person is on skates with a stick in league game.

Hockey taught me that the puck moves faster than skating.

Hockey taught me that gear does not make the man. (or woman)

Hockey taught me that there is nothing more satisfying than winning as a team.

Hockey taught me that there is nothing more frustrating than losing as individuals.

Hockey taught me that there is no other sport or game that demands so much physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially  .

Hockey taught me that I can always feel like I did when I was 12 years old skating on a pond.

Hockey taught me that it doesn't matter how old you are when you started to play, it only matters that you started.

Hockey taught me that I can walk into a locker room in Kingston, Ontario after driving 6 hours from NJ and play a game with guys who don't know me from Adam.

Hockey taught me that skating is special, not everyone can do it.

Hockey taught me that my best friends are in the locker room.

Hockey taught me that even just showing up matters.

Hockey taught me that it is all for one, one for all.

Hockey taught me that it's not just the first line, it's the third line, too.

Hockey taught me that I can grow older but still feel as young as I want to.

Hockey taught me that my defence partner is just as important to me as I am to him.

Hockey taught me that if you want it bad enough you can get it if you try hard enough.

Hockey taught me that this is a game for life.

Hockey taught me that grown men and women think nothing of committing felonious assault against a minor if they don't like the way a hooking penalty or offside was or wasn't called.

Hockey taught me that (at least one) parent will think nothing of running dangerously close across the front of an operating Olympia mid-cut to yell at the officials.

Hockey taught me that there are far too many people who will buy their kid a shiny new composite when the old one breaks, even if the old one was broken because the kid smashed it over the crossbar after :12 of use.

Too cynical?

Hockey taught me all about the life cycle.

Grew up absorbing as much knowledge about the sport that I could from my coaches. Now....I am the Commissioner of our league, and coach for 2 age brackets and love every aspect of coaching and passing it all on to the next generation.

Good thread.

Hockey taught me that when you lose big, you don't say much.

Hockey taught me that when you win big, you should say even less.

Hockey taught me that even though I'm 40, I feel like I'm 18 again when I'm driving hard to the net with the wind in my ears.

Hockey taught me to keep perspective on the other things in life.

What hockey's actually taught me (and is still teaching me):

- There's no room for ego on a team

- Work hard, every day

- Even the lowest level team and league can be incredibly fulfilling

- You can't buy or learn improvement, you have to physically do it

- When you fall down, get back up
