NEW Skates, How can I protect them?

Hey guys, i just got some 9k whites this morning. Is there any type of protective treatment i can buy, either at a pro shop, or from like footlocker or something, that I can coat my skates with so they dont get dirty, and so they dont soak in water.

there's protectoe. It's like an epoxy that goes over the toes (pretty self expanitory)

Being ice skates they are designed to be exposed to water and wet environments. No real need to protect them from it.

We're talking about a pair of hockey skates; unless you're just dropping-by a skate-and-shoot session one or two times a week, they're going to get a bit beat-up. Take good care of them (take them out of your bag every night, remove the insoles, check the rivets with some degree of regularity, etc.) and they should be fine.

I don't wear RBKs, but the people I know who do say they've had no real problems with them taking-on water/sweat. If it becomes an issue, you can always buy yourself a boot dryer and throw them on that after every skate. We've got a couple of them in the dressing room, and the guys that use them seem to like the results.

You could always clean them with low strength goof off after every skate.

I cant believe that I just read a post on how to keep skates clean. Seriously put them with your purse and lock them in the trunk.

last time i checked.. most of the newer skates had plastic toe caps.. (older skates like the Bauer Supreme.. CCM Tacks (Kaberle, Modanoa, Chelios, Amonte).. had the white plastic toe caps wrapped in the hockey boot material.)

i wasnt talking about the toes, i was talking about the white neoprene material and the outter materials. I should have been more clear. I think ill go and just get some sneaker protectant. Thanks though

You could try a bit of the Fantastik or Clorox with bleach cleaner, that works nicely for my white shoes.

Silicone spray. Get it any store the sells steeltoe boots. It's a water stain/repellant. Best I can think of, other than that when it comes to sharp blade hitting it or a puck, you're pretty much SOL.

they don't need anything, they are hockey skates, they are made to be able to get wet when you go on the ice, just dry them out after, no need for sneaker protector, it won't help.

figured that the silicone was what i had to get, just thought there was something else. My dad used to be a shoemaker and he told me to get that. Thanks guys

You are correct- they are black plastic toe caps. I just received my white 9K's as well.

To the guy that started this post-- if you talk to your fellow teammates about keeping your pretty white skates nice and clean, they're going to tell you to go back to your Girl Scout's troop for pointers. It's hockey, so don't be so neat.

To answer your question: if you want to keep the white nice and 'white', use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
