lurkndestroy 1 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 in the beer league i play in the standard is a round of fist knocks with your team, maybe a stick raise or a "YEAH". we got this guy on my team that scored one of the most disgusting goals ive seen and proceeded to jump up and down like it was game 7. ive had my share of trash but i found it a little embarrassing to be on this guys team especially when we were getting blown out 7-
B19Kress 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Normally just a "yeah" then gloves with the guy who passed it...If its an important goal maybe a fist pump ( down on one knee if its REAL important)

Hradsky 1 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 I think the most kickass celebration is if you don't do anything, skate straight to center or off the ice without doing anything with any of your team mates and just act like you're gonna do it again next shift so it's no big deal. sickwilly 37 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Fist bump or a stick tap on the shins with teammates on the way back to the circle or bench. Nothing showy, nothing disrepectful, and nothing to motivate/piss off the other team.
Slapshot9123 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Act like you have been there before. Raise your stick go to your teammates skate by the bench bump everyone then change or line back up. I don't understand why people have to make themselves look like jackasses when they score a rebound goal or something. Unless its a game winner in OT or a huge goal in a big game there is no reason to do nothing else other than what I stated.
bigdmac 12 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 As a ref, I see kids of all ages do that "Touch the ice, and point to the sky." Im not really a fan of celebrations, unless its the overtime winner or something important. Even then, i still dont take it overboard.
maxamillion 3 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 I like to see the big guys showing they still enjoy every goal. Gretzky said he liked to think of every goal as his last and some of his celebrations were big.

GoBucky 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Depends upon the circumstances, but if its a big goal you should celebrate. As long as its not too elaborate and doesnt include an extended dance sequence that delays the game, I think its great.Goals are the most fun part apart hockey and when you get one, you should enjoy it. mug25 2 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Who gives a shit if you're playing juniors, squirts, beer league, college or pro? You play the game to have fun right?Depends on the goal I guess. If it's just an average or garbage goal, I nod at the person that passed me the puck and go to the faceoff circle (or the bench)...now if I score a goal that matters, like a game winning or game tying goal you'd better believe I'll be excited — beer league or not. It's all about how into it you are.here's a new one LMAO im gonna called that "The Tuskan Raider"

dsjunior1388 81 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 I like hockey. I like scoring. I don't get excessive but I do get excited. If I wanted to go around with a bored look on my face I'd do my homework or read the business page of the newspaper.Hockey is supposed to be fun guys. I don't knock guys who keep it low key, but I don't understand the "Its just beer league" attitude. Its the only athletic competition I have, why not have a little emotion? Its the only athletic competition I have, why not have a little emotion?Because most of us have played cometeative hockey and have been there, done that,,,, we want to have fun and get some exercise. We don't need s weekend warrior that started playing in adulthood trying to kick our team mates ass because they took exception to a "goal celebration" in beer league. We answered that bell when we played, we don't want to have to do it now when we are just looking for some fun and exercise.
stuie7 6 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 To be fair to Ovi, that's still nothing compared to what you see going on in American Football. Don Cherry has a massive chip on his shoulder when it comes to players who have a great deal of flair and creativity; jealous much? For one of my beer league teams here we have a 2-hour long relaxed practice once a week, I dont mind doing some OTT celebration, jumping into the boards Ovi-style and intentionally falling over as a joke.., however in games, well.. I don't score many in games haha!

I don't score many in games haha!I thought Cherry's rant on celebrations was fitting in the thread. About Cherry, he has an extrememe bias towards anything Canadian and he hates the Russians, so no shocker there. That video is funny because the quote he uses from Crosby isnt even about goal celebrations, its about the little scrum that Ovi and Crosby had in the game they had a week before that video was made.I do agree that an Ovi-style celebration would be a bit much for a beer league or pickup hockey game. xFortune 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 Don Cherry is a dinosaur in modern hockey. He just gets more and more annoying.
vek 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 I think this stuff is hard for Cherry to understand, because when he was truly involved with the game, it was played primarily by working class people who weren't getting rich off it, and had nothing to gain by self marketing. Companies making sticks named as a euphamism for someone's wang, and flashy youtube clips overcelebrating something aren't something Don has much background on, because until recently, it really was more of a team game, and less about the individual marketing themselves in the new media.
