NHL to sell adspace on jerseys

Recommended Posts

well sure in europe we´ve been getting used to this ugly jerseys, but i hope all that super marketing strategic heros of the nhl will find some other ways to get more money. i hope the future of the nhl will not look like this:

playoff jersey off the kassel huskies, german 2nd league:

by the way, playername is not "licher" or "kasseler bank" :D

Did anyone see the pictures of the proposed jerseys in the Hockey News? They looked a little too much like the Kassel Huskies for my comfort.

"when all of pro sports is littered with players who would jump ship at the drop of a hat for a bigger paycheck"

How many people do you know wouldn't switch companies for even a slight increase in pay? Hell I'd throw a nun through a plate glass window for 10%...

Reinforcing my point, thank you. Professionals making a lot of money aren't any different than people who are scraping. Everyone wants more. It isn't just hockey players, or athletes in general. It doesn't make you an asshole if you're after more money either, it just depends on how you go about getting it.

you're right but the last time I checked I didnt have to decide between 6.7 million and 8 million, 10% means a lot more for people like us than it does for a professional athlete.

I will stop being a hockey fan the moment NHL jerseys start to look like those trashy Euro jerseys.

Hope you have a back-up sport, Sport.

I wouldn't mind simple, yet nonimpeding ads on sweaters and/or pants. But making them look like paintball uniforms... That screams "we're a sport without tradition or beliefs!"

There's gotta' be a better way.

thats kind of a low reason to stop loving hockey, but if it does happen bare with it i doubt it would last long

not that there's anything wrong with paintball or anything, but really. come on. hockey is definately different than paintball. you cant have Ameritrade's logo plastered on the front of an NHL jersey. i mean come on. What happens if lucky charms manages to pay to plaster their happy lil elves on top of Sidney Crosbey's back? ewww?

I'd hate for the NHL to be the first major NA sport to cross this line.

they wouldn't be the first.. MLS (major league soccer) already does it.

Not a major American sport. Hell if you ask me, it's not a sport at all :P

NASCAR?

Not a sport.

See, I dont care if you like soccer or hate it(I'm not a fan myself) but it's degrading to have your jersey marked up with logos. What ever happened to the name on the front more important that the name on the back? Who are we playing for? Jolly Rancher!

Nascar, again not a fan... But the sport is basically one big advertisement. More importantly it's basically logoed pieces of equipment. I dont care about sticks, skates, pants carrying logos of who made them. But a jersey having a logo other than small makers logo, shoulder patches and the main logo? Thats borderline sacreligious.

Both sports, though I share the same feelings on both, are kicking the shit out of the NHL. Maybe not the MLS per se, but soccer definitely does.

I'm quite confused that this has come up, but i'd say having ads on the pants would be better than making the jerseys look ugly. Here we have little money in hockey, so they have ads on the ice i'd say everywhere, the jersey look awful because some teams doesnt have a logo on the front but the main sponsor. The top of the cake was when one of the team figured out to support breast cancer research and they wore pink jerseys all-season long, i mean the idea is good, but hockey here doesnt get the attention that it would make any sense.

Just an interesting thought after seeing the jerseys from the elite league playoffs (britains league) which are league issued and then sold off to make money. One of the teams, Edinburgh had a jersey in the same design as Florida's new ones and as with all the teams over here comes complete with advertising and is probably more like what the NHL would do then the DEL style shirts.

what do you all think to that?

definately better than the ones from DEL or other german leagues! but still to much ads for a nhl team! i got a detroit red wings authentic yzerman jersey and i would start to cry if they would put all that patches on it!!

Oh man, those DEL and swiss-elite league shirts look like crap. but it doesnt have to go to that distance, here for example is a player from finnish elite league and i dont think its all bad

i actually find the swiss elite jerseys to look less trashier then the DEL ones ( no offence) but the reason for that is because they still have a team crest, have a major sponsor on the bottom of the front, and the back (depending where the name is) and on the arms, maybe its because im so used to seeing it, but i think they look alright, i think what makes it look so much better is that they all wear the same helmet, unlike in the nhl.

an example, the team where i live (Lausanne Hockey Club) pictured is the Top Scorer (cory Pecker) in his famous flamed jersey and helmet.

cory is your cousin? wow thats really cool, god damn he can shoot the puck. yea i do live in lausanne, and yeah it is the B league, but the jersey layout is the same for both leagues, i just used lausanne because its the local team.

He had a hell of a year this year btw.

ya thanks man, he sure did, to be honest, i didnt get much of a chance to talk to him since hes been there, do you know anything about the whole thing? is he gonna go to the elite league next year? (i know its ridiculous that his own cousin is asking you this but theres no way for me to really know other then asking my uncle who i dont really talk to)

im not entirely sure to be quite honest, i think he signed another year in lausanne, but im not 100%. dont know if hes a fast enough skater to make the A league but im sure he could, but why play in the A league and not be noticed, when you can be the best player in the B league for the same amount of money? in the A league he would have to be doing the same thing as Daigle, Jeff Toms, Cory Holden, etc and i dont know if his game is at that level.
