Was there a special rule passed that limits the number of penalties that officials are permitted to call on them? I usually avoid watching their games but I saw most of the game against the Hawks tonight. There were half a dozen solid boarding infractions and at least a dozen two handed chops that didn't result in penalties. This is the team Bobby Clarke was trying to build in Philly but he wasn't good enough to make it happen.

Listening on the radio is sounded like they were often in the penalty box.

Of course the radio does not let me see what other nefarious things they are doing.

Oh, they were still in the box alot, but I'd say less than one in four serious penalties were called.

Just so I have the list correct. The teams who receive an obvious bias from the refs are the Ducks, Sabres, Maple Leafs.............................

Where would you rather be in April/May Anaheim or someplace north that is cold. I know where I would rather be... just some food for thought.

Now why they would favor Buffalo or Toronto, I have noooo idea. Maybe they like Donald Trump's hair piece and Maple trees.

The Sabres get calls (more so last year than this year) because they were the team the NHL was promoting with the invention of the "New NHL". The Pens get calls, too, because of Sid. I'd assume the Caps do as well. Haven't noticed the Leafs getting to many calls their way, but I'm biased so I'll leave it at that.

At this point, the Leafs would screw up a two car parade down a one way street. If they were getting calls, it wouldn't really make a difference.

Since the Ducks play seems to be a hot topic on another board as well I found this article to be interesting.

http://deanbrownblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/...d-of-dirty.html

The guys is absolutely correct. In football it used to be called the raider effect. If you're constantly playing dirty, you have to do something really outrageous to actually get a penalty. It plays on the laziness of officials and their unwillingness to properly penalize players for their actions.

I personally like how last night Pronger hits Eager and then Eager says something so that gives Parros the right to come over and just start throwing them at Eager while he's just standing there taking it.

THEN on top of that Parros doesn't even get thrown out. I guess the refs give free passes to those who have zero hockey talent, just the skill to throw punches at someone standing there and trying to duck them.

The only reason I bring this up is because of the whole throwing out of Barker against the 'nucks the other night. Toews clearly took the cheap shot and so Barker comes in and stands up for him cleanly, Barker and Pettinger both had equal chance to throw, as they both squared up.

I hate the Ducks and so I hope they get ousted as quick as possible in the playoffs.

I didn't see the 'Hawks game in question but I'm guessing the difference is that Barker received a third man in penalty. Parros was penalized properly. 2+5+10 for instigating from what I saw of the highlights.

I'm just glad we don't have to play them again before the playoffs. They are basically in "injure mode" it seems. It's pretty typical of thier play all year long. What thier commentators call "physical play" which I guess translates to tons of boardings, head seeking hits, two handed chops and nuttings.

Chippa, I actually think both Barker and Pettinger were thrown out. To me it looked like Pettenger hit Toews as Barker was skating from out of the corner then he turned around and saw that happened and went after him. Maybe I could find a replay on YouTube but it looked like Barker just shoved Pettinger and then they squared up and dropped.

I don't know, I just didn't understand how that could warrant a game misconduct but literally skating 10 feet to just throw on a guy that's obviously not wanting to fight or needing to fight just gets a 2+5+10 (misconduct). Thanks for the explanation though.

Link to the Barker/Pettinger incident I was referring to:

I get a chance to watch a lot of their games on local TV and one thing they get away with a lot is the shit in front of the net after the whistle. And I'm not talking facewashing and stuff - I'm talking punches to the back of the head and the face - cheap stuff. Pronger is the obvious culprit but Getzlaf, Kunitz and Perry also do it a lot as well. And they get away with it. It's really strange.

The boardings and big windup, two handed slashes that are let go bother me more than the scrums in front of the net.

I was pretty amazed that Pronger's hit from behind on Rene Bourque was not called. I realize he is a known vet in this league but those are the types of hits that paralyze guys, let alone end careers. He didn't even hold back at all.

i hate the ducks more then anything, and because of the way they play i will not watch their games, unless they are playing a good team that will likely beat them..

Pronger should have been penalized for boarding on "Craig Adams".. betcha he would have really laid it out if it was Bourque.. Dirty move on both parts.. The ducks play an edgy game (boardline on many nights) and do get penalized more often than not.. "live by the sword.. die by .. u know what i mean.."

Losing Perry will hurt the ducks a bit unless Bobby Ryan starts proving he's worth the high pick the Quackers spent on him..

Perry is a huge loss for the Ducks, and i really don't think Bobby Ryan can fill Perrys spot, unless he really starts to pick it up. and about the Ducks playing an edgy game, it is just there style and i think there style helps them win games.
