keeping shinpads in place

Recommended Posts

I have size 14 rbk 9k shinpads that I am having trouble keeping in place as they keep sliding down. I wear nike leggings as gitch, and have tried different styles such as taping the shinpads then socks over, and more tape, or just taping socks, but it seems they slide down too much. If it helps any i pull sock up to quad, put on pad, and then pull elastic and rest of sock over the shinpad. Would putting on the sock reverse way work? or is there a type of legging with maybe rubber too keep it in place?

Any suggestions as to what I should do?

I personally have the same problem, just with bauer 4000 shins. What I use are called shin-tights. They are made by a company called viceroy. its an elastic sock that goes over your shin guards and under the socks. they work great and only cost 20 bucks at most places. Hope this helped

Maybe the shinpads are the wrong fit for the shape/length of your leg?

That's what I'm thinking. Properly fitting shins shouldn't required anything more than a strip of shin tape to keep them in place.

Earlier versions of the 9k had a less-than-ideal strap arrangement that lead to this problem (if your shin pads have two separate velcro straps at the back over your calf, that's it). My solution was to sell them on eBay and buy the current version (which only has one strap that forms a < across your calf) ... the current version is much easier to get tight and far less sloppy to wear.

i"ve been using some old neoprene knee guards that are alittle stretched out. I pull them over the pads now and they make them very very snug. Much better than tape.

You can get a few of those from ebay... i bought like 8 of them for about $10, and they last me years.

Nobody uses the straps on Jofa/early RBK.

I use a shinguard strap and tape once around lower leg, go diagonally up and then once below the knee and they don't move.

Same here, I hate shin guard straps. I usually cut them right off.

Anyway, since tape doesn't work, your problem is most likely your Nike leggings. The slippery fabric of the pants against the slippery liner of the shinnies doesn't make for a snug fit. Try using shorts instead of long pants...

I do the same thing and it works great. My CCM's are the first shins I could get away with taping it tight and it feeling right on the back of my leg instead of cutting off circulation.

Shin tights are definately a great product and worth the investment.

If you want one more try with tape, start high on the back of your leg, come lower as you come across the front, and then pull the tape up as you bring it back around. Usually you can use the design of the shinpad to give you the leverage to pull up.

I know I saw a few comments above, but anyone else have experience with these? Also, what sizes do you guys have. hockeymonkey has only junior sizes and am wondering if it'll fit. I have rbk 3k shin pads, which seem a little bulky.

My shin pads don't have the straps any more so I use a full wrap aftermarket strap then use shin tights on top of them. It keeps my shin pads from moving and I don't need any tape over my socks.

These all look like band-aids for an ill fitting shin pad. rbk's are a bit on the wide side. Maybe take a look into the easton line?

ive worn jofa/rbk for maybe 15 years now...i'll never change. i assume its my worn out nike leggings. I'm going to get the vapor XXXX leggings with rubber on the shin area.

I know the shinnies fit right since putting them on they fit great, but over the course of a game they slide down

I've got 3k's and as long as the strap across the calf is tight...I do the knee strap somewhat tight and just need some tape at the knee...and they stay put.

Elbows (CCM Tacks) on the other hand...I've fallen twice in the last few weeks and had them shift around....hurts like hell.
