stick flexes

Recommended Posts

For the people who transition over regularly from ice and roller, do you guys use a different stick with different flexes for both?

I'm just using the same stick right now but was wondering if it would be better to get a whippier stick, given the roller puck is much lighter.

I also go whippier when I play roler.

Ice: 85 Dolomite

Roller: TPS Whip

+1, same flexes.

I use a lightweight stick for roller, a one piece bauer its pretty flexy. But I prefer a two piece 110 flex shaft for ice, the weight of the ice puck makes the one piece feel like a flimsy piece of string, ready to shatter from a mild slapshot. I know it probably wont, but its all phsycological, a firmer stick feels better to me on ice. Playing ice is expensive enough, adding $100 bucks a stick per game would put me in the poor house.

Didn't want to make a new topic but I have another question for you guys:

Do you use the same length stick for both ice and roller? I just noticed my rollerblades were about half an inch or so taller, on Vanguards.

I have maybe a strange question, but one I never really was taught correctly. I've been playing now for about 15 years and I just now was thinking. I personally use a stiff flex stick on roller and definitely on ice. Now I have played with a regular flex (85) before and it just feels like I'm gonna break the stick. I have a pretty hard shot, always have. Just curious as to what the general "rule" is for correct stick flexes. Would I be better getting used to a stick with more flex?

no rule, mainly personal pref.

I do notice that some guys get a flexier stick on inline though.

I've used 100 flex on inline for about 2 years and didnt really like it... changed to a 85 flex for about 4 years, then to a 75 flex for about 3 years. Now back to 85 flex.

For roller, I used to use 100 flex, and that was just too stiff for me. Now, I use an 85 flex for roller. Personally, my shot is much stronger with the 85 flex. As fatwabbit said, it's all about personal preference.

I've yet to notice much of a difference flex wise. However, the difference in blade feel stands out to me. I prefer a dampened blade feel in an ice stick but hate that for roller hockey.

I used a 100 flex forever, switched to an 85 flex and my shot is night and day. I cut about 3" off, so my 100 flexes were just too stiff for roller.

I use more flex for inline as well. The weight of the ice puck makes it a treansition that I can adjust to quicker if I use a stiffer flex on ice. I play both back and forth 2 to 3 times per week, and it takes me more time than warm up allows to adjust if I use the same flex. I can use it adequatly, but it takes a little longer to adjust.

My shot is harder on ice with a 100 flex, but with an 85 flex I can be a little more sloppy with my technique. I use and intermediate for inline.
