I tested some SYNERGY skates today....

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I was fortunate enough to get to try out a pair of Size 8.5 Synergy skates today. Easton sent them to me and another guy to try.

These are pretty stiff skates. I ended up undoing the top eyelit of them.

The boot was suprisingly VERY comforable. There is truely no need to heat mold these, they didn't give me one bit of pain in the acual boot first time skating in them. They come with some very nice shockdoctor insoles in them.

I wear short socks when I skate. The top of the boot dug into my let pretty badly, that wasn't too nice. I wasn't fond of the holder/steel setup. The parabolic steel made me feel like I was on about 2 inches of steel. They were VERY Light, stayed pretty dry, which was nice.

Not too much to say, they were nice. Put a Tuuk Lightspeed(my preference) and they'd be one hell of a skate.

My main consern was that, because you can't stitch into the composite boot, the material glued on may come off fairly easily, but other than that, I liked them a lot.

Good Job Easton. :D

and here are some pics:

saposed to be in october.

so far ive heard the skates are extremely durible. you know how often NHLers go thru skates, and i was told there are some pros that were still trying to break them in after 2 months. however, is that a good or a bad thing?

having to undo the top eyelet to get proper ankle motion doesn't sound too reassuring. Is it your preference to do that w/ all your skates or are the synergy's really high cut and/or void of ankle flex?

In the last pic you can see the leather starting to tear and wear out, just when the back thongue starts.

Actually that would be incorrect, there is no tearing there. There is a cut/indentation on all the skates right there. Camera angle. Pretty sure those aren't quite final versions yet either. The tongue has been slightly modified as well as some of the ankle padding. I could be wrong though, but that was my understanding.

I've been tying the top eyelets and have had no problem. Keep in mind the size of the player, weight, etc. I'm not a big guy either, 5'9" 168lbs, extreme forward lean/crouch and flex has been great.

Limited allocation in October.

It's not that big an issue. I've always let AT LEAST the top eyelet undone on my CCM Tacks, which have a good deal of forward lean anyway. Also, the sides come up really high on the ankle. I would've done the same and that doesn't indicate anything's wrong.

LOL...woooooo...that's funny...

I wouldn't call that a good thing.

Is the finished product going to have those tongues? Nice basic felt tongue. If that's the case, I'd be all in on those.

I used to do the same thing with my CCMs. A couple of people have said the same thing about the Synergys, in regard to unlacing the top eyelet.

I haven't heard anything about not being able to break them in in 2 months so I wouldn't place much stock in that.

These skates are pretty much ready to go right out of the box.

It's a matter of preference when it comes to stiffness. There is no such thing as the right stiffness for everyone, no matter what the brand.

I usually do that top eyelit out thing on all my skates, though the boot was very high cut.

They felt broken in fine the first time I wore them.

They fit wasn't very comparable to much. they felt a little bit wider than a Bauer Vapor XX D width. The toe box was a little bit smaller, but was still comfortable. the top of the toe box was covered in the same material the tongue(inside).

They stitch the actual layers together, then they glue those layers onto the composite boot. the material wont actually come off, as it is all attached to eachother, but it will eventually become unglued.

No, Ryan is right, the leather is not tearing.

They were a different fit that zair comps.

keep ?'s coming if you want.

I love a cast-like boot so i might take a serious look at them. I didn't have a great experience with eastons the first go around however.
