Ted Nolan Fired in New York

Recommended Posts

I can't think of any pro sports team that has been as screwed up as the Islanders for going on nearly 15 years.

Mike Milbury and all the cheap owners ruined this teams winning ways into a joke of an organization. Wang sure as hell isn't a better owner. He trys to pretend like he's all about winning, but I feel he surrounds himself with bad hockey people and he only cares about winning enough to make more money.

Snow is a joke of a GM and only does whats Wang's stupid hockey people tell him to do. He has no experience. Hiring Snow as a GM is like the Rangers and Wings hiring Messier and Yzerman as GM's the second they retired. At least Messier and Yzerman have legacies in those cities and were possibly the two greatest captians in the history of the NHL. Snow was a backup goalie!!!! The islanders are a mess and even though I hate them, I kind of feel bad for this crazy kind of team mismanagement.

There was a possibility of the Islanders having Loungo, Heatly, Spezza, Redden and Chara all at the same time. Possibly another stanley cup. But Milbury F*cked up and then goes on to critisize other GM's. I Hate Mike Milbury. I'm not even an Islander fan.

Chadd Sullivan

I second the nomination.

I'd rather have Snow's job. Less time on the road and the GM conferences are always somewhere with nice golf courses.

If you want to go with youth, why do you go out and pay that much money to Mark Streit? He's not a noted leader and it's not like he can munch 30 minutes or more a night if the kids are screwing up left and right. I don't think Nolan is going back on the do not hire list after his stint on the island. He kept his nose clean, didn't complain about the GM publicly and did an admirable job given the talent he had to work with. The question is if he will accept an assistant job or hold out for a head job again.

The tsn article seems to have more meat in it than from when I first read it. Anyway here's an interesting tidbit:

Nolan and Snow disagreed over the reasons for the disappointing record. Snow said he believed the team was underachieving and had the makeup to be a playoff team again. Nolan felt he didn't have the necessary personnel to win and took a clear shot at Snow when he said in February, "We don't have natural 50-goal scorers. We have guys who work for everything they get. That's the way we play."

Seriously, if any one player has that much pull with the GM/Owner...what coach in their right mind will want that job?

this team has a lot of issues. Their building is falling apart, they have 6 or 7 sell outs a year. I wonder if there even making money.

Maybe Wang is flushing the team down the toilet intentionally and they are losing money on purpose.

When do we start the pool on when they are moving, and where they are going?

Monty, maybe we will get our Hartford Whalers back! Lol!

Drop in the bucket for someone like that.

Any progress on the new arena? I grew up a mile and a half from the Mausoleum.

There still pushing for the light house project which will make the area into a mini city. There is going to be a river in the summer which will freeze into a skating rink in the winter.

I went to the Mausoleum once last year when the Rangers were there. We packed the house it was at least 75% Ranger fans. Not one " Lets go Isles " chant all night. The place is still a dump, the single concourse kills it. Long waits for the bathroom and the bathrooms are in bad shape as well. But the girls in mini skirts make up for some of the things.

MSG>Mausoleum

Mods, heres an idea. If the Nassau County government shoots down the lighthouse project, this team is moving. If thats the case you should totally make a real pool for the day the Islanders officially announce they are moving. People can buy the days for like 10 cents a day and the winner would recieve the hottest stick on the market at the time like a One95 or something.

It would suck making money on a entire fan bases misery, but I'm a ranger fan so it would be a bit funny.

Nolan just must be a real prick.

Not from what i heard, he is a players coach and a great motivator, so i really don't think that is the case.

I remember hearing a friend telling me the reason it hasn't taken off is something to do with SMG [owns the building]not wanting to do anything until they're lease is up in somewhere around 5 years. Whether or not there is truth behind that is beyond my knowledge just throwing that out there.

As for the whole Nolan thing, I liked him i was shocked to learn he was fired, i figured he would have walked before anything else but hell i'm an islander fan i guess i should expect anything. :P

Oh by the way the lighthouse project now has its own song. yes, a song. If you don't believe me just turn the sound up and go to www.lighthouseli.com

Well, the Isles continued their pattern of hiring out of the Bruins organization by tabbing Providence head coach Scott Gordon as their new bench boss. Word is that he is very good with youngsters and he was given a lot of credit for guys like Krejci and Sobotka being able to mesh into the Boston lineup and contribute last season.

I was always a fan of what Maurice was able to do with mediocre Whalers/Canes teams. I don't expect him to be waiting long for another NHL gig.
