Dyeing Gloves

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've recently got my NBH XXXX Pro gloves and I like them a lot performance wise. Haven't experienced any lack of protection, that has been mentioned several times on this board but I have to say I truly miss vents from my supreme 70.

Anyways... I got them in a great price because my local team had couple left-overs. Unfortunately, gloves are in black/gold and stripes.. well, let's just say aren't the best paintjob I have seen... so I was thinking of dyeing them to be black on black. My plan is to carefully contour the stripes around with Double-Sided Tape, then wrap entire glove with foil, paper or whatever, cut the parts over stripes with precision knife spray them, leave to dry and remove everything. I was wondering what kind of spray I should use and if It should be waterproof even though you're not supposed to wash your gloves. The stripes are made of rubber-like paint so I guess it's pretty decent surface for paint to be applied.

So what you guys think? Is it a good idea or I am insane? ;) Hints and new ideas will be appreciated.

Here are some photos of my glove and what I'm trying to accomplish:

Instead of ruining them why not try to sell them and use the money to get the ones you want? Unless you take the gloves apart you're not going to get the total coverage you want. It will be real tricky to get all in the creases and such, and you'll probably be left with hints of yellow.

Is it me or do those look BLUE with stripes instead of black with stripes? So he wants to do the Whole glove in black? I do not think you will be happy with the results, and then they wont be worth squat to sell. I agree with a poster above, and sell them, and use the proceeds to get the gloves you Really want.

This sounds like it would end with nothing more than disappointment.

Sell them, buy what you want. Less headaches in the end.

what he said

why ruin perfectly good gloves when you could just sell them and get an all black pair?

I actually think that if he sat down and had time to do it, can do it with model enamel paint and a lot of patience.

I was thinking something along the lines of painting them as well. Dyeing them might be tricky but just covering over them could work.

Is it me or does the yellow look painted on ? if so can a paint remover be used on it without damaging the nylon and foam?

Model enamel paint? I'm thinking about trying something similar with an old pair of RWB XXX gloves in trying to make them just red and white.

I think the Testors model paint came in marker form as well, which had a chisel tip- probably perfect for going over the stripes on your mitts. Don't expect complete coverage with one coat- it'll look better with a couple of light coats rather than one too thick one.

XXXX Pro's are sick lookin gloves especially in all black. Just thought id throw that out there.

Agreed!

And in regards to dying instead of selling... hmm.. my brother tried something similiar once and they did not turn out good. Just remember, if you dye them and hate them.. everyone else will too. So you won't even be able to sell them.

Not true, it's all opinion

Yes, opinion....sort of. But if the dye job goes bad, the potential pool of buyers will assuredly get smaller, with the chances of making more money, or even selling them at all, lower.
