Amazing

The Caps are coming back strong...with ZERO confidence in net...Theo's swiss cheese and Johnson has the Bubonic plague, and they've still managed to make this a game.

Kozlov interview:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...?urn=nhl,130829

Money quotes!

When you're on the road, who are you sharing your room with?

"I live alone in accordance with my status. It is written in the CBA: 600 games or 10 years in the league. After we gave up 24% of our salaries and instituted the salary cap, we were given this."

A little hefty price to pay for a single hotel room. So Ovechkin cannot get a single room?

"I think Alex can, but he has a lot of fun with Semin."

Semin told me about the pillow fights.

"Yeah, they have fun. Sometimes I stop by, enter their room, see what's going on and run so that nothing will hit me. I move pretty quick dodging flying feathers."

Semin also said it was difficult to be without Ovechkin because you and Fedorov played pranks on him, and that only together with Ovechkin they can handle you.

"Yes, these guys should be kept apart. Otherwise they are too dangerous together. Especially because they cheer on each other. It was a little difficult for me to handle them last year until Sergei came over to Washington, when our chances became equal."

A tale of two games:

The Rangers played the best 30 minutes I have seen them play this year....then the Caps played the best 31 minutes I have seen them play this year.

I almost forgot you were a New Yorker! Overtime was the perfect solution for you! :P

You know...it was so weird. I found myself wondering how the Rangers were able to dominate the game in the first period.

Then came Ovechkin in the second...and I was out of my chair every time he touched the puck. I just knew they were going to come back and tie it. I also felt the 5 mins of overtime was the key, because if it went to the shootout, Hendrik would take over. I am still talking to all my buds in Arlington about this game..it defines the heart of this Caps team...and exposed their one critical weakness. All the guys on the versus telecast were unanimous in how bad the Caps need to bring Varly up...and after last night I agree. 4 goals on 25 shots total in the game.

Ive figured out what the caps need to do! haha goalie wise. just a theory.

step one. sell nylander

step two. send theodore to Hershey

step three. now having some cap space, they could go after khabibulin :D

For all you Caps fans, today Karl Alzner and Tyler Sloan will be at Rockville Ice Arena for the 5th Annual Rod Bower Memorial Hockey Game to sign autogrpahs and interact with fans. Tickets are $10, money going to the Rod Bower Learn to Play Hockey Program, which gets kids on the ice in the spring who otherwise couldn't afford it. There will also be a silent auction for such items as a Bruce Boudreau run youth practice! Hope to see you guys there!

Best wishes to AO who lost his Grandfather this past weekend.

On another note...HUGE congrats to Chris Bourque on his first NHL goal!

Where did you hear that AO's grandfather died? I haven't seen that anywhere...

Joe B reported it last night. Died at the weekend

And on the Ovechkin Topic, here is a pretty good interview (from before his grandfather died)

Yeah I hope Heward's OK too. Him not moving at all isn't a good sign. Hopefully he just got his bell rung. It didn't look like he took an awkward hit on his neck, so hopefully it's nothing serious.

I don't think it was boarding, but it might've been a borderline hit from behind. Then again, one of the Detroit defenseman got absolutely plastered into the boards from behind in the game today and there was no penalty, so it's hard to know. I would've figured if it was a dirty hit there would've been a call, or the announcers would've touched on it. There was neither though, so I dono. The way the refs call it sometimes though, it's hard to tell. Sometimes they have to be really blatant, hard hits from behind to get called.

Thoughts on the Ovechkin/Heward hit? Boarding or not?

I hope Heward is ok.........

I was at the game. Hit looked a little high but it was legal. Heward seemed to catch it at a weird angle and I believe his head bounced off the glass which added to it.

Hope he is alright.

Announcers tonight mentioned tat Heward was taken away and treated for Concussion like symptoms. Not good at all, but a huge positive considering the possible spinal problems he could've received from that hit.

A little write-up on it on Yahoo Sports. They're saying the same thing, that Heward has a concussion and is being held for observation. Apparently he was unconscious for 90 seconds, yikes. That's pretty bad.

Ovie seems pretty sincere about not wanting to hurt him. I was wondering earlier, do you think this might make Ovie get a little gun shy with the hits? Maybe hold back a little for fear of hurting someone? I'm sure the coaches are thinking the same thing though and will tell him to not worry about it.
