2009 Washington Capitals thread

Recommended Posts

There may be a benching tonight. I would guess based on Juice and Schultz's play last night, it will be one of those..

This from tarik

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalsi...r_recalled.html

Just arrived at Mellon Arena and there's something interesting stuff report.

Bryan Helmer just walked past me. There's been no announcement from the team about a recall, but I'm under the assumption that he's not here for the warm weather and sunshine. I didn't notice an injury to a defenseman last night, either.

The Caps, meantime, did not skate at all. They had a much longer than usual team meeting this morning and then headed straight back to the hotel.

Before they did, however, reporters were able to talk to Alex Ovechkin and Bruce Boudreau about the simmering rivalry between the teams. I also managed to grab Sidney Crosby on his way out of the arena (the Pens didn't skate, either).

So come back in a few for some good quotes from both sides

I'll be checking to see what quotes are coming up and will post them (god forbid I actually do work here on a caps/pens gameday!!!)

I'm leaving work early so I can stop off for beer on the way home, get the dogs walked and pick up pizza so I can watch the game in peace without having to do anything.

Have I an illness?

For Capitals vs. a boring team is why they invented calculators. For Capitals vs. Pens they made cheat-sheets and friends who had that professor last semester.

Center Ice is showing the Caps feed as well.

Depends on who your provider is

Yeah I already checked for the Caps feed. Odd since it's on Comcast Sportsnet, and I have Comcast center ice. I'm gonna have to resort to watching it on mute.

Doesn't make sense to me, but I'll take your word for it.

What's so hard to understand? Some cable providers save bandwidth by only offering one feed for each game and no HD. Comcast is one of those providers.

Ok, I can understand saving space, but if it was me, I'd offer anything that was available. I realise cost is an issue, but I think customer service is most important.

 You've never dealt with comcast I assume.

We changed to Fios when it came out, and I said then, and I maintain today that if we ever move to somewhere that comcast is the only option, I will do without cable.

Absolutely positively the worst effin customer service in the world.

I'm pretty sure the Abu Gharib prisioners were treated better than comcast customers

another great win over the Pens tonight.

Don't know which Pen took the puck to the face from Greenie but hope he is alright. That had to hurt.

Looked like Scuderi, and there was a lot of blood. Hope he is OK.

Talbot left the game in the third too

Having not seen the game, I really have to question the slant in this article.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=263230

Penguins agitator Matt Cooke bumped Ovechkin in retaliation and was given a penalty.
But the only in-game displays of dislike came when Malkin was penalized for interference when he bumped Ovechkin during a first-period Washington power play and when Ovechkin finished a hard check on Crosby into the boards in the third..."I didn't even see him. It was a cheap hit," Ovechkin said about Malkin's hit.

They really seem to downplay the hits on Ovechkin and emphasize his hit on Sid. Is that accurate or not?

I'm sure the injury to Crosby wasn't too bad. If there had been more than two and a half minutes left and less than a three goal deficit I have a feeling we might've seen him again.

edit: RE: Chadd, I think (biased of course) the hit on Crosby was just Alex finishing his check. It definitely seemed to be within the time limit after Crosby had given the puck up.

the penguins annoucers were saying the ref raised his hand for a penalty on cooke when cooke started skating towards ovechkin (anticipating him hitting him) but then cooke held up and barely bumped him and rather than lower his hand, he just called him for interference. having watched the game i would say there were some debatable calls both ways (like the 4:00 high sticking on brashear i think).

also i cant believe all the bad breaks the penguins are getting with injuries - they finally got a few guys back and now they possibyl lose 3 ppl in one game (scuderi, talbot, and crosby) and at one point it looked like they had lost letang as well.. sucks to be them i suppose..

actually it wasnt steckel's stick it was godards - because later letang was joking around that godard got him back for training camp when he had high sticked godard on accident. it was pretty hard to tell though even on the replay so im not really surprised that the ref called it.

Wow, that kinda upsets me I am not going to lie. In retrospect though it was all OK. I could've done without Malkin's on knee/ass shaking celebration though on the resulting PP.
