Hockey North America

Recommended Posts

So I was asked the other night to play on a Hockey North America team here in Jersey. I was just wondering how many people here actually play HNA and how do you all like it? I need to be convinced to do this because I would have to leave my other Men's team. There's no way I can do both, coach, and hold an actual job at the same time...

I play in St. Louis and I enjoy it. We went to Toronto in may for the championships and faced a team from New Jersey. If you like the team you are on and have no problem with the competition, I'd say stick with it. If you are seriously thinking about HNA, skate with the team once to get a bearing on the skill level they'll be playing at. It may end up being much lower than you're used to (or much higher).

They had some teams near me a while back- seemed excessively expensive for adult rec hockey. The skill level wasn't all that impressive either.

In the US HNA is geared to mid-lower level adult hockey. Having to buy matching equipment is a pain in the ass for most players. Players who still have equipment from college and pro careers really don't want to go buy new stuff to match their teammates.

That was my impression when I checked into them a few years back when I was thinking about trying to bring them into this area.

I was going to play HNA two years ago, stepped on the ice for the first game, the ref says I have to leave the game because the stripping on my socks was red/black not black/red. So I left and never came back. I thought is was pretty stupid to require a beer league to have all the same colors, so on that basis I would never play.

Hi. I played at HNA in Vanocuver for 10 years now.

never heard about matching equipment?!

We need matching uniform though. Usually you got a 2 min penalty if someone on your team wearing something else.

the HNA teams here in Maryland have an entirely different skill level when you compare them to surrounding leagues in Virginia or being played out of the Garden's Ice House (Maryland's premier facility). I was gung-ho to join this HNA team but by no means does B level here equal B level elsewhere. Good times and good guys throughout the team and league, but if you're looking for better competition you might want to check somewhere else (not sure if this skill differential is comparable throughout the entire HNA system). goodluck though, remember that there is no such thing as a waste of ice time

C level in the DC area. Has been about the skill I expected maybe even a little less. Refs have been fair and everything seems to run smoothly. I have heard some bitching about administration and computer interactions but that is just nitpicking. So far satisfied

Check the schedule first. In Northern NJ, HNA teams play at all the different rinks, not just one rink. You will be traveling to Ice House, Mennen, Bayonne, all over the place.

I play B in North Jersey. So far they've only had us at Mennen, South Mountain and Ice House. I'm REALLY looking forward to my hour drive to Ice House tonight for a 10:45 game time...
