Wedding Bands

Recommended Posts

I always wondered why so many guys are getting Ti rings now....then I looked at the prices. Much nicer. Those engagement rings though...wow. But hey, apparently my Minnesota Wild has an "official jeweler" so it would go to a good cause

The price of a kicking wedding band is nothing compared to what you drop on everything else.

I went with Ti strictly for the look. The price was just an added bonus.

after reading this im not wearing my grad ring while i play again (i assume marriage is still far away). actually when i take a lot of shots the ring cuts the skin at the base of finger - i got a bandaid on it as im typing this, so this thread got me pretty much convinced.

I took my wedding ring off for a while, then got worried about dressing-room thefts, and started to leave it on.

Not any more...

You talking the engagement ring, the wedding, or the wife?

I meant the wedding in general. From someone who tried to keep it reasonable and still ended up spending an obscene amount of money, elope.

Law - Stash your ring in the car.

Not any more...

I had my wallet stolen out of the locker room during a pick-up game that started at 8:00am on a Saturday morning. I only had a few dollars in it which didn't bother me as much as the hassle of canceling credit cards and replacing my drivers license. Now I leave my wallet locket in my car and only take enough cash to cover what I need for the ice time. I'm getting married in 2 weeks and my ring is tungsten. I will be leaving that locked in the car with my wallet.

I used to wear a stainless steel ring on my left pinky (I shot RH) and it has given me a few superficial cuts in the past. The argument for taking your ring off to play seems pretty straight forward as it is better to be safe than sorry. I know most people say it doesn't affect their play but it doesn't take much more that some swelling from a jamed/sprained finger to start causing problems. Again, my theory is better safe than sorry. Mine stays in the car...

I've taken to locking my wallet and cell phone in my glove compartment. What might be even smarter would be to have a little cubby-hole somewhere in the car you stash the stuff because the glove compartment can be a target for thieves.

I've always been told you keep your valuable out of sight and you avoid break-ins. Working at Best Buy for many years, we had several break-ins and a lot of cops talking to us. I try and keep the car as clean as possible so there's really nothing that looks like it'd be worth stealing inside.

Don't you guys lock your locker rooms?

I know that we do all the time, especially after thefts that have happend at a couple of the rinks I have played at.

Hell, once a kid that was cleaning for community service went in our locker room and stole a bunch of stuff. Only problem was, half the kids on the team knew who he was so he got busted quick.

I've played at a rink where locked rooms got rifled through. Kids that work at rinks will make copies of master keys so just locking the room isn't enough. As I've said many times, the best protection against lockerroom theft is either not bringing valuables into the rink or having a team valuable bag that goes out to the bench.

After my car got broken into, I keep everything right by the spare [in the bottom of the trunk under the floor] in a bag of somesort when I go to hockey.

Don't play with it as you will eventually damage your wedding band. The best thing to do really is to leave it at home so it won't get stolen. I never bring my wedding band, watch or wallet to hockey games anymore. I used to bring my wallet and leave the credit cards at home and it's a good thing I did that as in late February our room got broken in and they stole everything. I had nothing on me that they could use except for cash but had to cancel bank card, driver's licence, health card etc. and that's a pain in the ass. So I leave any valuables and wallet at home now and just bring cash with me.

Damn, Thanks guys.... I'm sold on a titanium band. I've been looking for something reasonably priced, and close enough in look to the future Mrs' white gold.

Sidenote... I've been designated "wallet bitch" in my pickup hour. I offered up my helmet bag to toss all the wallets in, and off to the bench it goes with us. The iPhone usually stays in the car. I was just considering popping the wedding band on a neckchain to wear a little more securely while playing. Again, no band to wear yet, so I'm curious to what you guys thought.

One word: Frodo.

Well played, I'll leave it home. haha

Take it with you. That way you won't get any slack if you go out for a few beers after.

If someone breaks into your car to steal your wedding band, you have bigger problems than a missing ring.

Don't wear one during a game or practice...or during the day for that matter...he wait am I still married???

I know a person in our Never Ever league that tapes his finger so he can wear it...to each their own...

imo rings should never be worn during manual labour be it work or sports, first reason being safety. i have yet to see 1 hockey player wear rings during gameplay. and now that i think of it i've never seen the pros wear rings either. besides, i can't imagine being comfortable with a ring on my finger inside my glove and gripping a hockey stick let alone taking shots, abuse, and all that good stuff.

How many of you who religiously take off your rings don't wear full cages?

I'll play the odds of not getting the magic bullet to my finger and wear a full cage every time I'm on the ice.

Also from some jewerly sight when I typed in cutting titanium rings into google.

Q: Can a Titanium ring be cut off?

A: Yes! Please be aware that in any situation where it might become necessary to cut off a Titanium ring - for instance excessive weight gain, hand injury, etc., - cutting through titanium will be more difficult than cutting through gold or platinum. However, it can still be done. In our own jewelry shop, we used a separating disc and flexible shaft tool-items commonly found in nearly all jewelry shops that work with gold, silver, and platinum--to cut through one of our 5mm domed and comfort fit titanium rings. Cutting it all the way through took only 20 seconds. Next, we contacted our local hospital emergency room and asked if they were equipped to cut off a titanium ring in an emergency. Most hospital emergency rooms are prepared to handle almost anything, and ours assured us that it would be no problem for them.

During our 30 years of jewelry repair experience, we've only seen a dozen or so rings that have been cut off in hospital emergency rooms, and in most of those cases the rings had been bent out-of-round and were putting painful pressure on the finger. Titanium rings are less likely to crush or bend out-of-round, so if you shut your hand in a car door or drop a heavy object on it, it might be safer to be wearing a titanium ring than a precious metal band! Nonetheless, if you ever need your Titanium ring cut off, just contact a local jeweler that uses separating discs. Please check with your local medical facility if you have concerns.

That'd be me... I'd like to add that I've been playing hockey longer than I've been married - so there. Seriously though, my ring bothers me when I play and that's why I take it off. It also gets in the way with golf and picking up chicks.

Its actually my one superstition. If I don't wear it, I have a crap game.

Kinda funny, I am taking this season off from house league. I lost my wedding band a few weeks ago and my nhl09 game has gone down the crapper since.

How's the marriage holding up since you lost the ring? I hear wives tend to get upset when that symbol of "undying love" goes missing...

Good Point might have to take mine off from now on.
