Gonchar out 4-6 months, shoulder surgery

Hmmm, I wonder if they would have been more involved in trade talks for Schneider if they had known this sooner.

Raffi Torres out 4-6 weeks with a separated shoulder from tonight's game.

Slammed his shoulder into the ice in a fight with Ben Eager.

Bad luck for him, just coming back from knee surgery.

Well I guess the Pens defense will just have to play defense..Letang and Goligoski will have to carry any offensive load from the backside.

The PP without Gonch and Whitney will struggle mightily.

Oh, Darryl, welcome back..

Friend's roomate works for NHL PR out of Toronto, supposedly Henrik's knee is a problem and might need surgery.

I don't know if I buy it though, if it was bad, even precautionary kinda bad, I don't think they have him fly.

if lundqvists knee is that bad i would think he would have had the surgery as soon as they got eliminated from the playoffs at the beginning of the year.

or at least that would have been the smart thing to do until waiting for now.

as far as the penguins go - im surprised that they actually kept sydor around - they didnt let him play in any of the playoffs and i thought for sure he would go to another team over the summer to get more playing time.

But i would imagine they are happy they still have him as an option since all their defenseman keep getting hurt.

Philadelphia forward Steve Downie was injured in a fight with Jay Beagle of the Capitals late in the second period and did not return. No word yet on the extent of the injury...

EDIT:

capitals.nhl.com

"Downie left with what appeared to be a left leg injury after the fight and he did not return."

What the hell. On sportscenter they were talking to Babcock and he said it was just a bruised bone.

I dunno maybe i heard it wrong.

One of the stories may be older, an x-ray revealed truth after the report. Such as a doc diagnosing a bruised bone, an x-ray showing a break when performed a day later.

i think its amazing that the nhl players get so many differing opinions from the doctors they talk to - i think gonchar got three or four different opinions before deciding to have shoulder surgery.

For example one doctor would say "give it a month and you'll be fine" and then another doctor says "you need major surgery right now and you will be out for 6 months" how do you decide who to trust?

Especially when your paycheck depends on you playing.
