The 2008-2009 NHL Injury Thread

Recommended Posts

Anyone who is considering going under the knife should be getting multiple opinions from doctors. If one doc says "yeah, you'll be fine, let it heal up" he may not notice something, be inexperienced with this type of injury, or even be an authority on it and be correct, you don't know. Ask for an explanation. If he then says "well I'd just be reluctant in case it turns out you dont need it" then you know he's pulling you. If the guy that says immediate surgery tells you he's a specialist in shoulder joints, and if this or this were different he would say to wait, but people in your condition that don't get surgery 90% of the time come back and get it done, then you might listen more.

My dad has seen 7 doctors about his knee surgery. One tells him that losing weight will solve the problem, one says that at 55 he's not a good candidate for a new knee, the other 5 all recommend to go under the knife within the next year and will improve his quality of life until he dies, and losing weight is highly suggested for other obvious reasons.

He's checking into a hospital for surgery as soon as insurance resets in 2009. If he had listened to the first two doctors (not that they're the first two he saw), he'd be damaging his knee further in excercise impact and be miserable with daily pain until he did get surgery.

Cheli - broken foot. Should've stuck with CCMs.

He's gotta do something after his playing days are over, maybe he's trying to make the transition to referee less dramatic.

Chris Lee NYI carried off the ice on a stretcher in their loss to FLA.

Islanders defenceman Chris Lee was carried off the ice on a stretcher in the third period. He was injured when he was checked into the boards from behind by Rostislav Olesz. Lee, who has never played in a NHL game, stayed on the ice for several minutes after being hit at 11:02 of the third period.

A team spokesman said the 28-year-old Lee had movement, was conscious and was taken to a hospital.

Olesz was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct on the play.

He may not be an NHL regular but still a blow to the NYI organization.

What's up with Dipietro? Hasn't started either game this year. I didn't pay attention to the NYI during preseason, was he playing? Did he re-injure his groin/hip?

Update: Jack Johnson (shoulder) will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum and isn’t expected back until after the All-Star Game, the LA Times reports.

Victor Kozlov listed as Day-to-Day after the Capitals/Canucks game.

From WashingtonCaps.com/dumpnchase

First, the bad news. The injury that caused Caps forward Viktor Kozlov to leave last night's game in the second period will keep him out of the lineup for a couple weeks. One man's ailment is another man's opportunity, and it appears as though Kozlov's ailment could be Eric Fehr's opportunity to get into the lineup.

Yeaup, Kevin Weekes I hope your ready to go hahaha :)

He looked very solid against Buffalo last night, but lost 2-0. Sabres shelled him in the 1st (20 shots) and only got 1 goal on a PP. 2nd goal was a deflection from the high slot area.

So do the Devils make a run at Khabibulin? If they can get him at half price via re-entry, he would fit under the space vacated by Brodeur's injury savings.

TSN seemed to think they Lou won't jump to that right now...they'll go with Clemenson & Weekes for now. They seemed to think Rolloson was a more realistic option for them. Halak might be good, but I don't see Montreal trading him this early, and certainly not to someone in the East.

With Khabibulin putting up better numbers than Huet in more starts, I doubt Chicago would want to waive him and be on the hook for half his salary.

They need the space to add some forward depth. They need a real #2 center.

I still don't get why a Khabi to LA trade hasn't happened yet. Its perfect for both sides.

LA isn't going anywhere with or without him, why spend the money if it isn't going to make a difference.

LA has one of, if not the best group of young forwards in the NHL, and a lot of talent on defense. If they added a consistent tender and maybe one or two experienced D, they could challenge for a playoff spot. LA needs to quit sitting back, waiting for everything to fall in place which is what they seem content to do.

Agreed, and it made even more sense when LA was trying to get above the salary floor prior to the season. At the very least it would give them a better option than LaBarbera and maybe let those young defensemen gain some confidence.
