As long as you don't brag or flaunt it, no sane person will have any problems with you. That means only one or two guys will give you a hard time, because there are always a couple bat-shit crazy guys in every beer league.

ya, the $$$$ stuff i have is/was always commented on positively. +1 on not bragging as that's not too cool

it's always nice to hear "sweet gloves" or something such and when i see something i like, i let 'em know :D

few years ago, i went to drop in and a young kid was there wearing new SWD gloves bought at Wallyworld for maybe $30

i don't think he was too comfortable with us all in new mid-high equip and him in stuff from "Wallyworld"

he seemed really pleased when i said that SWD was a good brand and made the #1 woodie ever

so you don't need to always give props to the +300$ stick or skate either

if i could go back to the used Cooper gloves i used as a kid bought from my neighbor, i would (at least one game anyways)

Simple rule to follow for beer league: Avoid the flashy stuff. It will just make you a target for ridicule.

High end is fine by flashy is asking to get ragged on by the opposition.

the league me and another MSH member play in, i think we are the only ones with high end equipment, they joke with us about it, but never rude or mean minded!

I don't see it as a problem man. I've never heard anyone ragging on someone here in Melbourne for having nice/flashy stuff, and I wear white gloves... :P

The only thing I really heard people get ripped on about was Vform inline skates, if anyone remembers those, but that was just friendly joking too.

I wouldn't stress about it, who cares what anyone else thinks of your gear.

If you are a good, experienced player and are wearing top-end stuff, I've never heard anyone comment negatively....unless it is obnoxiously flashy. There's a guy on my team with one of those mirrored Oakley visors and a few of us give him crap about it, calling him Ovie and such. But I'm old school, so I much prefer older gear that has worked for me in the past. I like tradition over trend. Generally, it's the newbies who have played maybe one or two years and buy the top-of-the-line OPS because they think it will make them a better player that draw the most judgement and derision. But at the end of the day, who gives a shit what people think, as long as you like it, can afford it, and it performs the way you want it to. Mostly, I bet older beer leaguers will be jealous of your speed and skill and prob not even notice the gear you wear (if you are young and can skate). I only notice the obnoxious stuff, personally, and from time to time I check out sticks because of my stick obsession.

As said above, when I'm out there I don't take any notice of anyones gear, unless it's really obnoxious like a mirrored visor. It's only really in training that you may notice something.

My opinion is who cares what other people are using / wearing and who cares what they think of whatever you are using / wearing. Go out there and be a solid player and it will not matter...

I always get a chuckle at the the guy at open hockey/beer league with the $200 OPS who can't catch a pass or execute a snap shot....

and the question is why?

usually it's a sign of internal insecurity...

who knows - maybe that guy didn't have time to play through his private school & later on through harvard - now he's got the dough & spare time & decided to start playing hockey - why wouldn't he indulge himself since $ isn't an issue?

I see it quite often btw - while some spent time playing & getting good at hockey, others were busy making $ so when they finaly decided to start - well - you get the point.

everybody on my team almost looks forward to seeing what new stuff i bring in for that weeks game. ;)

I get that same comment.

yeah that's why i asked....i dont need to be getting in fights in a beer league lol

Did you ever get in a fight with someone when you were in school when you wore American Eagle, Hollister, etc. and he was wearing the Walmart Speacial. I highly doubt it, so I am pretty sure a bunch of guys going out to have FUN are going to give a care. I say go for it, if you have the money to go out and spend it on gear, do it (because when you are married and if have kids, if you don't already, the wife won't like you going out and dropping $500 on new gear)

GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your in the market of buying new gear check out the latest product online before you go to a store. another great site to see product reviews and what NHL players are wearing is a site i came across called whotheprozwear.com pretty cool site. i bought a few sticks through this site.

Another important thing to mention is that more expensive does not always mean better. As an example, I was looking for a new helmet, as I wanted to upgrade from my NBH 3500. I tried on all the CCM's, Reeboks, and Bauers. None felt as good (to me at least) as my 3500. I did like the s17, but will wait to try the s9. In short, and you will always hear this, buy what fits and works best for you, with price being not as important. and I agree with the posters here....flashy is not-a-so-good. :)

No matter what you'll always get one or two guys who will point out you have something new even if it's unintentionally done. My advice is get what fits you best and protects you adequately for the level of hockey you play. If you get one or two high end things most guys aren't going to really care. I personally don't give a squat what anyone else has or how high end it is because it doesn't make you any better or any worse on the ice, that part is up to you. Just as previously said don't brag about you're high end stuff or point out it is superior to someone else's equipment because then you set yourself up to get drubbed or ragged on in the dressing room. I've personally always had good high end equipment simply because I value the protection it gives me and I've taken a bit of ribbing from some of my teamates in my league. I just shrug it off and just say it's what the guy at my local hockey shop recommended for good protection and leave it at that. I never ridicule anyone elses stuff and now I hear nothing when I some in with something new except the odd guy asking me how I like it.

if you were wearing all of the top of the line stuff back in highschool . . . don't you still have your old gear? I Had a lot of top of the line stuff in high school and still wear it.

Actually, The only pads I still wear from highschool are my shins, elbows, and helmet. I downgraded on shoulders, bought a girdle, and downgraded on gloves.

No need to fix something thats not broken. If your old equipment is fine, stick with it, you obviously liked it back in the day didn't you?

I wouldn't worry about the other guys. The only time I ever raise an eyebrow to someone's equipment is when you see a guy with a $200 ops and $99 skates.
