Shanahan to Philly?

Recommended Posts

He could be a good influence for the young Flyers. A shorter season would leave him with some gas in the tank for the playoffs. Maybe like a Gary Roberts?

It was pretty well known that he would meet with Philly and NJ since the Rangers don't want him.

Philly needs another forward?

Only if they package a couple guys in a trade for a better goalie or more defensemen.

Interesting. I'm sure someone will pick up Shanny at some point, but I guess it depends on what he thinks he's worth. He'd still be a solid 2nd or 3rd liner, with lots of experience. I say Detroit should sign him.

The problem is that he wants to stay close to NY for his kids and have a shot at the cup.

I remember hearing he wanted to stay in NY for his kids, but is that still the case now that he's not going to be signed with the Rangers? If none of the teams close to that area want him, then what does he do? Retire?

Detroit has like no money to sign the guy. I don't know if he'd even be beneficial there. Don't remember how his skating is doing, but maybe the devils need more locker room presence with rolston out for a bit.

What about Pittsburgh? Kinda close to NY area, and with Gonchar out the Pens could use some veteran presence I feel.

Haha Pittsburgh to New York, not very close, especially towards the city. Philadelphia is much closer, especially to the city. If Pittsburgh really wanted to have someone like Shanny on the team they would have kept Roberts.

It's a one hour flight, not tough to get back and see the kids on a fairly regular basis. Plus, they play the Rangers, Devils and Islanders quite a bit, those are all extra opportunities to see the family. We've also seen veterans not have problems on the Penguins, for whatever reason. I don't think he would be welcomed on that particular team.

let's not forget about boston. his wife his from hte boston area. as stated he does want to stay on the north east coast, but the reason is because the league offices are in NY. he has for some time become an influencual person in the game since he chaired the competion committee. is been rumored that he would get a league job when he retires

Our buddy Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that "the Chicago Blackhawks have contacted unrestricted free agent Brendan Shanahan and his agent Rick Curran." Dave tells us that the Devils and Blues are out, and that Boston Bruins and the Hawks are "definitely in there." Oh, the Detroit Red Wings fans would love this about as much as a root canal or getting frozen out of Winter Classic tickets.

same here as a wings fan first, then a hawks fan as well. I think it would be a boon for the Hawks to get a great vet like Shanny in there. Seems like a long shot though. Im interested to see him back on any team soon.
