Beflar

Does anyone else buy for hockey gear when they don't even need it?

Recommended Posts

Nice, I gotta get a look at those cans(odd, that's not the first time I've said that). My glove collection is 16 strong and I've used or plan on using all of them. I just bought a pair of Russian Easton 4-rolls to go with my team-usa and czech Eastons. I like having rare/usual gloves, stuff that you won't see someone else with.

i had a cheeky bid on those thinking noone had noticed them after they had been up a couple of days

Is this a joke? If not, dude, sell half of it and take a week in Tahiti.

My collection is going to hit the streets for a similar purpose.

I might be in Harrisburg for TurkeyDay, so if you're unloading soon....

I'm not too bad, mostly just sticks...nothing serious tho, my friends think its weird when i stop using a wooden blade thats a noodle because its still in one piece. I usually give my "old" stuff to my friends when I'm done with it.

I usually sell it off cheap to friends. I think I've unloaded 5 shafts and blades to friends for a case of beer each, and I've sold/traded the higher priced stuff that I wouldn't give away on here (6 or 7 sticks there). I certainly have a few things that can be moved, I'll probably start breaking down my stick collection next semester and treat myself to a few nice things to end the season with. If I'm not going to use them I'd like to move more toward pro stocks and unique curves/items.

I should actually be here, just have to figure out what I have and what I want to keep.

I am book marking this thread and making my gf look through it - "You see. There are tons of people just like me!"

Hockey gear is a recent addiction of mine. I find myself looking at one thing at a time though...and I can't stop thinking about/researching it until I get it.

In this last year I have purchased completely new equipment - head to toe...so now what do I do?

....oh wait...I need backups!

I am with Mack on this - contrary to popular belief, I'm not a gear whore. I'm pretty particular on what I use in terms of sticks, protective and gloves. Skates are the only part where I sway on, since I test a lot and that is the only category that is constantly evolving...

I have double of everything , two sets of gear. Use my best stuff for my men's league games or men's tournaments. Use my other set for pickup games or when my first set is still soaked or wet from playing the night before. I hate putting on cold wet equipment. Both sets are high end gear so they are usable at any level of play and really can't upgrade. This way I don't get tempted to go out and buy what's new and currently hot or popular. I kind of put a check on myself because I was starting to notice the gear whore symdrome starting to comsume me at times in the LHS. Still like to browse and compare but stopped buying because it is just too expensive to carry on charging stuff on the plastic card.

The only things I have a backup of are skates and sticks. I realistically cant see anything happening to any other peice of equipment that tape wont fix if something happens during a game. But if I break a holder or blade, I have a VERY VERY VERY beat up pair of s15's to use....and of course back up sticks.

just starting to play hockey a couple years ago, i've accumulated quite about of equipment:

4 pairs of gloves, just sold a set and i want to get some ppfs soon to.

pretty much 2 sets of all protective and over 10 sticks which i don't even use

3 pairs of skates. i just picked up a pair of quest 1s for 50 bucks haha

i think my collection would grow more if i wasn't injured right now..

I wonder what the current buzz count is.

Buzz doesn't have anything on Ponty.

Ponty's stick collection would bring a tear to Drew's eye.

I remember his pictures after he got rid of most of his stash. Still had more stick than a lot of stores I've been in.

From the last pic I recall him having under 50 sticks... but once a gear whore, always a gear whore. I bet it's grown since.

No, you would know if you had seen it. We're talking more than 300 sticks.

He put up at least 8 pictures, and they were all different.

Maybe it was buzz that sold off his stock... I remember it was a thread about sticks and everyone was calling him out before he posted a picture saying that he sold off most of them.

i used to be ALOT worse then I am now, but I also lived with my parents back then and now im out and on my own. Ive got 3 or 4 pairs of gloves, now i probally have 20 ops, but in times past ive had upwards of 100. i honestly had 3 or 4 team mates over at a time with like 75 bucks just taking sticks home. Ive got 2 pairs of shins but one pair is cracked, beat to hell 1st gen synergy elbows that are taped together, 3 or 4 pairs of inline pants but they are atleast different colors, 3 8k helmets, but all match a different team so not too bad there, and 3 pairs of skates, but always looking to move gear. kinda wish i lived at home again so i could whore it up but im gettin a bit older and i hate to say it but i finally feel like i dont need to buy new stuff EVERY week like i used to.

I know the feeling. Once I moved out and went to college I've bought practically nothing, and its almost been four years. Granted I'm not playing as much as I used to, but still its like night and day. All I've purchased was an AK-27 Shaft (with a gift card), five of those Mission pro-stock blades from HM, and a Larionov Inno 1100 (but thats more of a collectors item). I also got a new Nike Bauer 4500 helmet, but that was given to me. The weird thing is, I'm not even that interested in new gear. I hardly ever look at this particular forum anymore, and I'd have a hard time telling you what the top of the line gear on the market is today.

I'm the same way for the most part. I may have 8-10 TPS sticks, but almost all of them are R flex R2XN10s and most of my blades are tapered P31s. My biggest problem is that I never throw anything away. I've settled on just about all of my equipment but the stuff I've used along the way is mainly cluttering up my big junk closet and the attic.

I like to try out small stuff like different visors, cages, and the like. I usually end up eBaying stuff I no longer use. Have an Itech RBE visor that I'll need to post and some socks that don't fit my shins.

I started playing hockey in January O7, with a pair of CCM black storm skates [cheapos im sure] and a bauer one3O naslund stick. I decided I wanted to play regularly, so I got my dads old gear and started playing. First i had to buy gloves. I bought an ancient pair of kohos for $12, realized they were too small, and bought a pair of AHS gloves, [a company that went under, found the gloves on ebay]. After a while I slowly started replacing my dads old gear with play it again stuff, spending about one hundred dollars total for used pants, shins, elbows and helmet. A little later, i decided to ref, so my red itech helmet wasnt going to cut it. I splurged on a brnd new mission intake, plus under armour visor, for one hundred ninety dollars for both. A little later, I bought a nice pair of ccm 952 tacks for $135. And then an ebay find of bauer supreme gloves for $17. A little later i bought new shoulder pads, then new pants at the peranis sale last spring, and finally brand new shins and elbows. Every piece of gear i owned i had bought brand new. A little later, I discoverred pro stock, and scored some sweet Easton gloves from the avalanche on ebay, and later some mias, currently being repalmed. Then I bought a apair of graf 727's about 3 weeks ago. And here I am lusting after Eagle PPF's, and farrell shoulder pads.

Yeah... Kind of like you... Picked hockey back up 4 years ago... First was a new helmet because the old one is too small, then wood sticks broke too easily so I went with OPS. Now I have 5. Skates were too old and too big, got a new pair. Pants not protective enough, brought new ones. Gloves have 2 big holes, so splurged and got one90 for 70 on ebay. Thinking of getting new shins because my current ones hurt my knee.

Sign... I think I spent way too much time on MSH... Should limit myself to visits of twice a day.
