Chadd

Fabric that never gets wet

Recommended Posts

I wonder what a skate blade whose hollow was coated with this stuff would perform like?

since it's fabric, I can't see how it would work at all. If you can figure out how to make a skate blade out of polyester, it might work though.

Wouldn't that be kind of like a rubber or latex shirt though (more comfortable obviously), nothing would transfer from your body to the fabric.

I heard NHL players had a similar problem with edge jerseys when the sweat would pour into their gloves and skates because it wasn't being absorbed at all (or much at all) by the fabric.

i wonder if it would be breathable at all. I supposed nothing is stopping air, but then sweat would be repelled back to the body which seems like it would not be fun.

If it is used in hockey or any sports equipment it would have to be used smartly. Not in a way like the edge jersey debacle mentioned above.

As long as you have drainage in your skate, it could prevent the nasty stuff from growing in there.

Obviously it wouldn't be used in a shirt, but rather it could be used as lining the equipment. Replacing things like coolmax.

You need for the liner to absorb some sweat - that's how equipment gets broken in. In a tight-fitting skate, it'll soak the insole or just pool up.

With new technology comes new methodology.

I would think this material would have to be proven in another industry before hockey companies would take a chance on it. Also, how do these crazy Swiss scientists come up with this stuff? I thought they were busy with the large hadron collider or whatever that thing is called

Fewer manufacturers means fewer risks as well. Scientists used to conduct pure research and we ended up with all kinds of amazing things because of it. It's happening less and less now.

true, it seems innovation is stifled by corporate interests, some great stuff never sees the light of day, since someone deems it is unprofitable, and its harder than ever to be an entrepreneur. The swiss scientists need to make some lighter 705 skates that dont get waterlogged to hell, theyd have more money from that then they'd know what to do with

Whoops, I found that website so much more interesting than my job and read a number of articles, this one was what I was referencing:

What about stick tape made from a blend of this material? No need to wax anymore.

Even better for use in bearings...

It might work in a t'blade like device, but it sounds like sharpening could be a problem.
