Dany Heatley's shield

Recommended Posts

I unfortunately have the great pleasure of wearing the heatley half fish bowl.

I have broken my nose 5X, so the slightest bump can do damage. So it's either wear this ugly ass visor(if you can call it a visor), a full fish bowl/cage, or go for style and have my nose realigned a couple times a year.

My wife made the right choice.

I will add, I have been hit numerous times with a puck or stick in the lower part of this visor, where a traditional small visor would have resulted in a injury.

I'd consider this visor if I wasn't already an Itech RBE man.

Optical clarity on the RBE is atrocious, but they were what, $17 at one point?

I can't use the bigger ones, they sit too close to my nose. I'll stick with a cage for more serious play.

Yeah it's brutal but I like the extended coverage, plus I'm not going to shell out big bucks on something that'll need to be replaced in a year. Same principle for sunglasses and wrist watches for me.

i tried a visor a few weeks ago for the first time and i must say idk why i just gotta go w/ the cage although i would like to try the massive visor like heatleys

your the only one I know that uses a cage after trying a visor. once you try a a visor most ppl dont go back to cage. visor so much better to see/play with imo.

Heatley's visor is the Oakley VR910, with the vents cut off. They don't sell a pro version of his visor.

If you look closely, you can see where the vents used to be at the top of the visor.

I went back to a cage after a visor cause I was too paranoid of getting hit in the mouth. I prefer playing with nothing at all on my helmet, but the risk isn't worth it for me. I bought a Nike Bauer 9500 cage and you can hardly tell it's there.

I wore a visor for many years and went back to a cage after eating someone's helmet and paying several thousand dollars on oral surgery that neither medical nor dental insurance covered. I loved the peripheral vision, especially when the puck was in my feet, but not that much.

That's my worry. The cost + waiting for the dentist to get the molds of my new shiney fake teeth. If I didn't wear my cage, I probably would've had that happen about 5 times by now. I wore nothing at all a few times, and then put the cage on for the next game. In that game I got high sticked twice in the cage by people with their sticks up. Since then I've had about 3 or 4 more high sticks right in the cage that would've done some damage. One of them got me hard enough where it slid my cage almost up over my face. Really, really glad I had the cage for that one.

How does his visor not get fogged up at all? I understand he probably uses anti-fog spray but that thing is so long and so close to his face. If I were to wear that thing it would be completely fogged up and dripping wet.

yea the main reason i switched back was because of a few nicks and bruises in the 2 pick up games i used it in although it wasnt anything serious it was only a few inches away to loosing teeth so i went back (even in pick up i still love to block shots and get down prob should of mentioned that)

I posted a review for the Itech Recon X200 shield combo. I was using a cage most of my playing career but then switched to the Itech X100 half shield. I can remeber the first day walking onto the ice with it... it really was like seeing the game on ice in High Definition. I had been using the X100 for almost 2 years, but had had a few close calls the last couple of months, so I decided to give the X200 a try. It works as advertised. The only downside was since I wear a large bucket, I had to buy a Mission Intake Large, it's the only L bucket the X200 fits.

Isn't this the retail version?

I have used this before and liked the coverage it provided. Never mind what it looks like. Unfortunately, it snowflakes in tropical countries within weeks after use, and it isn't worth buying a new one once a month.

Cut looks similar but Heater's doesn't have the vents.

They have been cut off.
