found this interesting.. watch the last 10 seconds of the video when he's at the boards getting gatorade.

what is that? he's adding grip to his stick.

stick tape wrapped backwards on a rolling pin?

also.. does anyone know what his curve/pattern look like? what's the lie? the blade shape/lie itself reminds me a lot of the older easton retail shanahan.

he tapes his stick a lot like i do. but is this tackimac?

Yes, tape rolled sticky side out on an old shaft has been used for ages to add tack. I saw a Pro Stock Kane in a store last year and if memory serves me correctly the curve is more of a mid-curve with a slightly open face. The blade itself was quite long too.

sweet! i had a feeling that's what he did with the tacki mac. i tape the grip of my sticks that same exact way.. i guess i'll have to go out and get tackimac. that's the ribbed wrapped grip?

damn. if only i could get my hands on a shanny (i used them all the way up until they stopped making them) i knew i should have bought up the random ones i would see at Dicks Sporting Goods back in the day. even if they were shitty ABS/fiberglass blades. i could have always gotten them remade as 'custom' patterns.

so the pattern is the old shanny clone (6 lie).. but is it the same lie?

Yep wrapped texture long, I measure how long I want it and cut the bottom off with a razor blade. Then (before the glue is set) I slide it down further and cut the butt end to about 1/8" then push it back up.

this is a video of patty kane showing how he tapes his stick.. maybe it will explain a little better.

it's how i tape my stick.. and have since i was about 7.. so that's not new to me. but its a cool video!

he's also got his own custom one of a kind gloves/stick and skates made only for him/designed by him as well.. on 1.1.09 during the winter classic.

Off topic, is the Tacki Mac grip much thicker than tape on the shaft?

Mike

I thought it was too thick for comfort. BUT I'm really picky about stupid things like that, I have double taped certain sticks just for added thickness... Odd how patterns don't matter to mean nearly as much as the tape job.

If I find those I may try that cutting off the knob method because I don't use one either. I just put 4 strips of tape (one for each side) and then wrap over them and I'm done.

I still have no idea how you get those grips on the stick. I've tried it three times and it's always 30 minutes of trying to fit the damn thing on and then it rips. And two of those were on intermediate sticks.

I'd have to hold one before I bought it. I'm picky about how it feels in my hand, too tacky and it will bother me. I use my grip style to make the stick bigger in my hands and spiral ribs for a bit of grip. I've never had a problem with cloth tape, it just takes too long to get feeling right. Out of the 10 sticks I have grips on right now maybe 3 feel good enough for me to not think about it during a game.

You put the double-sided adhesive tape on the shaft

Run some hot water

Dip the taped part in water, then rub it with your fingers for about 20 seconds

Dip the grip in the water

Stretch it over the shaft, once it fits, slide it down
