What do you use to protect your shield?

Recommended Posts

I've got a nice new 8k, Concept 2 combo that I would like to protect in my hockey bag. What do you use? Store bought helmet bag? Home made helmet bag? Pillow case?

I've got a helmet bag that came with an old Leader mask I used to have. Seems to do the job. I seen guys use pillow cases and socks. I think DEFIANT SPORTS has helmet/mask bags for sale.

I used to use this bag to put my gym clothes in back in highschool. It does the job well without having to buy a dedicated helmet bag. Pretty cheap, you can find it for $10-$15 max anywhere.

I wrap my visor in my UA heatgear longsleeve. (My base layer.) It's something that I would be putting in my bag anyways, and it does the job. My visor has yet to be scratched while inside my bag.

I've been working on something for visors and I was planning on shopping the design at the show in vegas.

I actually bought a 'visor shield' that clips onto the visor with padded clips. What a stupid thing that was....went back to using a helmet bag.

This works pretty well. The only issue is making it work for as many models as possible.

I've always used a pillow case. Its cheap, and there has never been any damage to the visor.

Think my wife will miss a high thread count pillow case?

I use a DEFIANT SPORTS helmet bag for my coaching helmet and it works great. I put a wadded-up microfiber cloth on the inside of the helmet to protect the inside of the shield, and that works good for a quick wipe of the shield with the Oakley cleaning solution.

I used to use a Caberg motorcycle helmet bag, now I stretch a sock around it or wrap it up in my jersey... seems to do the trick!

I have a no frills helmet bag I got from inline warehouse for $10 and it does the trick, plenty of room and pretty strong material. I keep a couple of microfiber towels and a real soft terry cloth face cloth which is what I've been using for the Oakley spray, I try to put the microfiber towels around the visor when it's in the bag for some added protection.

I think whatever you have will be better than nothing at all.
