BIG toe curve

Recommended Posts

Trying to find a toe curve that is open at the heel, so that I can pull it in with the toe and shoot off the heel.

Anyone know of any patterns out there that resemble what I'm describing? Could you pass along a link, a picture, or even a pattern name?

If I can't find one, I'll most likely have some customs made up, but it'd be good to have either a clone or a picture that I can send in to the company that I have do the customs.

Thanks!

PS I'm a RH shot, but certainly send along any LH blades that come to mind too.

If I'm understanding your question right, you're after something like the Hogeboom. It's like a tamer version of the Lehoux. Hard to see in these pictures, but it's a slight heel curve with a distinct toe kink on it. Really awesome curve.

Yeah i was going to suggest the Hogeboom, back a few months ago Sports Exchange in Vancouver had a bunch of them in the 7k.

Hogeboom is an 85 flex.

I got my custom blades in a little while ago, they were patterned on the Hogeboom. Turned out pretty close, but not exact. A bit more toe and a bit less straight along the back. I haven't have a chance to post pictures yet, but hope to do so soon.

Any chance you want to unload one or two? PM me.

That's where I got mine. I've been tempted lately to call them and see if they still have any. I wouldn't mind having an extra one or two laying around. I can't believe how durable mine's been.

the 7ks are tanks. esp the ones where they have the fiberglass/carbon blades. i never had one of those break on me. i had a callahan 7k break from a vicious 2 hand slash to the sahft, but the pro stock reebok/ccms are indestructable

what do you think of this

is a retail recchi with a little more toe and open

Looks really similar to the Bauer P14 except a tad more open, beauty of a curve. Do it yourself?

Since we're talking about toe curves. I've found that CCM/RBK blades are the easiest to curve and the NBH/Warrior/Easton blades are the hardest. Anyone else have experiences?

as in their composite blades? or their wooden? I saw the youtube clip of sykora cruving his synergy... is that even possible?well i know it's possible but i cant imagine it doing any good for the blade. he did mention he went through 4-6 a game! why not just get them custom toe'd?

anywyas, to answer your question, i have never tried to heat up a comp blade... but i know that ccm has had made some blades (original vectors, v120 and pro stock sickkicks etc) that had the fiberglass laminate over the blade.. those were indestructable/seemed like it would bend with some heat).

yeah i think he said he went through a few hundred, so yeah it is possible but its it probably won't make it out of 1 game.

yeah composite blades. The CCM/RBK (the blades i've curved were 9kO and sickick and a old Vector). The warrior and eastons are not very curvable and the NBH are somewhat curvable. I've curved an Easton UltraLight blade the only Easton blade that has come out okay when curving. Most of my curved composite blades last a season and a half (30gms + about 10 or so practices).

I've been curving my composite blades for a while now. I've had reliability issues with the TPS blades/sherwood and a bauer or two. I've been using ccm for the last couple weeks with no problems thus far. I've had a few in the past that have had the blade split over time but I'm not sure if that was a result of the custom curve as I've had other ccm sticks in the past do the same thing. Usually when I curve it's over the course of a few days. I tweak it little by little with plenty of time to cool down, and let the composite settle. I've had a lot of success with this method.

Here are some pictures of my new custom composite 8-K blades. They were supposed to copy the Hogeboom pattern and got pretty close, but not exact. They warned me in advance that they weren't sure they could get it exactly the same as requested - which was odd because both the blades and the Hogeboom are Reebok patterns - but they got it close enough for me (actually, I like some of the changes better than the original).

Hogeboom is on the right, mine on the left. Mine has some more toe, a little less heel, and is a bit less straight along the back. Basically, they smoothed out the heel and toe "kinks" in the Hogeboom.

Blades are working out well so far. The extra curve on and near the toe is taking a little bit of getting used to on the backhand - a couple of attempts at backhand passes have spun off the toe and gone nowhere near where they were supposed to go - but everything else is great. The straight back on the Hogeboom is the one thing I wish they'd been able to get perfect, but I like the extra toe better, so it's a tradeoff. Roofing the puck has never been easier.

I got them through a store here in Vancouver. Pretty much just walked in and asked at the counter if they could do customs. Had a choice of Reebok or SWD. Per-blade pricing was better on Reebok (essentially the same as the Canadian retail price), but SWD had a lower minimum number to order. They would only do a pattern for which they already knew the specs (the old Shanahan pattern was an example I was given) or one that was a copy of a sample sent to them. It took about 7 weeks from the time of order to delivery. PM me if you want the store name and/or other details.
