Do you hate wearing elbow pads?

Recommended Posts

came back to Singapore to visit the folks for Chinese New Year, so dropped in for some shinny with the hometown boys... wore all my old gear, with elbows that are about 8 years old. fell, scrapped the shit out of the hard plastic shell on the elbows. Didnt realise I still had some small coin sized abrasions on my elbows till my wife mentioned it. I think it would have been wayyyy worse if i didnt wear any pads.

I hate elbow pads, and wear tiny no name oldschool things. I was playing in an inline tournament a few weeks ago and got caught up with a player, which caused my elbow pad to slip off and I smacked my elbow on the concrete... gave me a bit of a reminder as to why they're used, so in my old age I've wisened up and bought some 9k's. I've fractured an elbow before, don't want to do it again!

I always wear elbow pads for all the reasons people above have listed. The last thing I want is to break/fracture/mess up my elbow!

Have not worn elbow pads in over 2 years now, I can't deal with how restrictive elbow pads are, I can't shoot or stickhandle like I can without them.

I don't play contact hockey anymore, so I don't really feel the need to use elbow pads.

I wear them, because my elbows are already screwed from wearing crappy ones for awhile.

I love the Eason Ultra Lite's that I've been wearing, but just picked up something new off ebay the other day.

After landing on my elbows a few times (stick and puck shinny), no, I really like my elbow pads. Actually, I play with full equipment, even neck guard (even during shinny). Last season's NHL incident reminded me that I need to protect myself or else I wouldn't be playing as long or live as long.

Occasionally, I don't use elbow pads for some friendly pickups but I've been known to go without shins in those too. BUT typically they're 4-on-4 and/or with the beginners we coach so it's no real worry for me.

If I'm playing a game or playing with guys that might get the least bit chippy, you should go with elbow pads without hesitation.

I've gone through a lot of elbow pads trying to find something that works. I've finally settled on Jofa 5044s a size down(size 5, size 6 fits perfect but is too bulky for my tastes), they stay up and arent very restrictive... Although they do cut off some circulation but I will get around to modding the strap with some elastic. I did like the one90s but they weren't perfect. I still look for different elbow pads on a weekly basis, right now the v08 and s17 have been catching my eye. The s9 was fantastic, in store.

I dont notice my elbow pads at all. My 6ks stay exactly where I want them to and dont catch on my jersy (which is way too big for me anyway, perhaps thats why, or maybe Im just too pre-occupied with other stuff).

Ive been learning (unsuccessfully) to do hockey stops lately, so I absolutely adore the padding on my elbows and knees at the moment.

I just feel like the one time I don't wear them I am going to fall funny and do some damage. Idk they aren't enough of a burden to take the risk. I just forget about them once i start playing.

I cant stand any of the elbow pads ive tried but i wear them anyway. Im hoping farrell will modify their football elbow pads with a hard cap, but still be able to be worn like a sleeve/band for comfort and mobility. I might just buy a pair and cannibalize some old Vic's or sherwoods for a custom pad

Ancient hockey proverb -

"The ice is unforgiving to the elbows."

Translation - always wear elbow pads.

;)

Very true... I've got some nice chips that float around on my elbow from falling on them on the ice (with elbow pads on), there's no way I'd ever take a chance of landing on them without any padding.

Personally I think the issue probabaly lies with the elbow pads themself, if they're too big/too tight/too bulky then it may just be due to them not fitting properly. I've always had issues w/ elbow pads b/c I have some near freakishly skinny arms and the straps would never hold them tight enough, or if the straps fit then the pad was way too small and didn't sit on the elbow properly or cover the arm at all. I've had a few pairs over the years that were ok but I've finally found the perfect pair for me and now when they're on I hardly even notice them. I picked up the CCM Vector 08's in a small b/c they reminded me of the old cooper techniflex style, they're real light and mobile and the straps actually fit me nicely with room for adjustment, also they offer good coverage so overall I'm really happy with them.

I for one can't stand elbow pads with the bicep protector. I'm on old school Jofa's which were a hand-me-down gift from a buddy. I can't imagine being able to use anything else.

Yeah, elbow pads are my best friend on the ice now. I've got the worst bone chips ever, and they hurt like hell from time to time. I actually need to use extra couch foam in my left elbow they're so bad. I guess I should get the chips removed, but I don't have the time. Maybe it's time for an elbow pad upgrade...

The only piece of equipment more important to me than my elbow pads is my cup!! Can't believe anyone would play a game (pickup or not) without them.

Not to mention that jackasses are always sticking it to you on your arms with their hooks and slashes. I wear JR XL Elbow Pads that cover my elbow and nothing else. They're so tight to my arm that they never slip, and are a great minimal way to go.

What about your helmet.

You take a whole lot more whacks to the elbow and shin then you do to the head. Sure, the consequences of a hit to the head are greater, but for day to day health, cup, elbows and shins are the most important.

And I always wear elbows. My Easton S5s fit me well, they're comfortable, secure and protective, not to mention not too long.

I always wear elbow pads, and I learned to skate at the same time I learned to walk for all intents and purposes.

Elbow pads are absolutely necessary for me.

I do play without shoulder pads as often as I can get away with it. I find they interfere with my stickhandling and shooting more than elbow pads, and the ones I have are the old style Sherwood 5000 Traditional PMP's.
