Eric Cole's Unique stick taping...

Recommended Posts

or you could just use bladetape.

Has the same problem Cole's tape does. Doesn't protect the bottom.

I think he means instead of this complicated process, and finding tape that a lot of people don't have in their area...you could just use bladetape, which is roughly the same principle.

Not to get way off topic...but did anyone watch that PK Subban skating video that is also on that YouTube page? WOW!

Yeah, that was awesome, the scissor skating one?

Saw the Devils - Caps game last night....

Jamie Langenbrunner has almost the same tape job as Cole, only difference is Langenbrunner leaves more untaped space along the bottom of the blade.

Thanks, that's what I meant.

Mogoblue: I guess if you use either method you are not overly worried about the bottom of the blade where most damage is going to occur, why worry about the toe?

Seems kind of dumb unless you get a new stick every game

Which I'm sure he does

Or more then one for that matter. When you have a sponsorship deal with Nike Bauer, durability isn't exactly a concern.

i've been taping my dryland practice sticks like this since i was a kid... so i dont have to retape them continuously. i dont use the adhesive or wax... just rubbing it down with a puck makes it stay in place really well. never tried it on ice, so maybe the adhesive is needed to keep the tape on when it gets wet...

I tried the tape job on the ice last week and the tape came right off right away. Even rubbed it down with a puck and wax, still came up.

I tried it as well. I did 2 sticks, on one I wrapped the tape ends at the heel with a couple wraps of tape. That one stood up a lot better. I used Andover wide white. I didn't like the little bump at the heel, although it didn't seem to impact my play. I used electrical tape on the bottom of the blade to cut down on some of the abrasion. I did find the blade to slide easier on the ice, I'm not sure if I like that.

I figured that my tape gets cut up and rarely makes it through a game anyway so I might end up saving tape with this technique. Next time I'm going to use a strip of Andover on the bottom and then 2 strips on the blade face and 2 wraps right behind the heel.

Tried it tonight at practice... and the results were amazing. I used the medical adhesive spray and it worked fine.. the tape held up really nice and didn't unstick from the blade. I tried it on a One90 OPS, which is my practice stick.. i will let you guys know on how the blade holds up.

You guys who tried it heard the part where he says "MOST IMPORTANT element is the spray", right?
Yep, my ears are fine. But Bauer isn't giving me a new stick after every one of my beer league games, so I need to be able to remove the tape once it rips.

Exactly. I'm not faulting the tape job because it came off the stick, I just didn't like the lack of spin on the puck. I would rather tape the blade further up or cut the bottom of the tape off, but I didn't notice much benefit in stickhandling without any tape on the bottom.
