The Clemmenson/Brodeur Issue.

Brodeur did it tonight!!! 552 wins!

I guess with March Madness starting this week, he was inspired...he cut down the net.

I hope Cherry doesn't bash him for 'over celebrating' *L*

Congrats. Couldn't happen to a nicer more humble guy I'm sure.

Now lets see how far he takes it, how high he raises the benchmark for all the newcomers.

TSN was figuring betweem 670-680 if he plays out his current contract then retires.

Guys like Carey Price and Steve Mason are on pace *L* but would have to average 35-40 wins for almost 20 seasons at the pace Marty is setting.

This one may be safe for a while...mind you with no ties...there is a win in play every night...so you never know.

Ya having no ties makes a huge difference nowadays.

In my opinion goalies tend to be quite streaky throughout the seasons of late. No real consistent year after year guys. They seem to pop into the limelight and then fade back into obscurity.

You're dead on with mason or price....one of them might do it.

Price has 40 wins at 21...Mason has 28 (?) at 20. Marty had 48 wins when he turned 22. Kinda early to call it...but yeah...they'd seem to be the guys to watch in, oh say...2027-2029.

Mason's on Columbus and I don't see Price being that good for that long. Where's Cam Ward?

Atta boy, Marty.

Let's not even bring Dryden into this conversation...

His career 258 wins against 57 losses, with 49 shutouts, is one of the dirtier stats in all of sports if you ask me.

Unless you saw Ken Dryden play and I did see his entire career, do not underestimate the man's influence on the goaltending position. I am taking nothing away from Brodeur. Brodeur deserves each and every accolade he gets. First ballot HOFer hands down. Dryden literally came out of college, only Tony Esposito was another college trained goalie at the time(interesting both Habs draft picks!), played some AHL minor in Nova Scotia and then stone cold stopped a Bruins team that was a 70s version of Gretzky's Oilers in their prime in his first NHL playoff. Dryden was the first truly big man in nets. Scotty Bowman knew he had a special player in net. The 4 year Cup run of the Canadiens in the late 70s started in net with Dryden. The Big Three on defence, Robinson, Savard, and LaPointe were his blueline assets. The LaFleur, Shutt, Lemaire line provided the offence. In the 70s Dryden was the go-to-guy in nets for Team Canada, just like Marty.

Wow... I think that was the only time I saw the words "Lemaire" and "offence" in the same sentence!

Except for the sentence, "Lemaire's teams aren't known for offence."

Since this is the closest thing to a Devils thread that we have, I figured I'd post here.

Anyone else feeling like Sutter could be gone any second? They've been playing--and looking--like utter crap after looking damn near unbeatable when Marty got hot.

Haha, it's funny you mention that. I read an article/blog today on I think yahoo, where the author was saying when is Lou going to get behind the bench. He let Julien go on April 3rd. Sutter is definitely not safe. They have looked like ass lately, I had to turn today's game off.

It's horrible. I really hope Lou doesn't do that same dick move again, but I have a feeling it's coming. I like Sutter and didn't think he'd do as well as he's done. I credit him to the team's success (even with the shit slump they're in) much more than what Lou did for them. He added a couple decent pieces but I don't think Sutter needs to be going anywhere.

I don't think he's going anywhere. From what I recall Lou was after Sutter for years before he finally persuaded him to join the Devils, and both Lou and Sutter have talked about how they're on the same page with regard to their approach/philosophy to the game. I just don't see it happening (and I hope it doesn't happen, I think Sutter is a great coach).

Here's what one of the Devils beat writers had to say about it, I certainly hope he's right:

The question I am getting the most often right now is, "Will Lou Lamoriello fire Brent Sutter?"

Even after six consecutive losses, I think the answer is a resounding no.

You can read more here.

I hope that's the case. If Lou wanted him this much and still did it, what kind of message would that be to anyone they may try to hire in the future? That'd make him the NHL's Al Davis, but with a far better record.

I dunno if Sutter will get shipped anymore, but his actions last night were a little shocking. Not sure what the leagues stand is on abuse of officials from coaches. Interesting what his management team thought of that.

*sigh*

I don't even know how to feel about that game. I guess I'll take what I can get.

After 6 straight losses I'll take it. Baby steps.

And now it looks like Clemmensen will finish out the season (and probably playoffs) back with New Jersey. Weekes looked like he was in a ton of pain leaving the ice. And it looked like such an innocent shot/save too :(
